What age were your LO's when they started to get themselves dressed?

I can't remember from DS1 but he is now 6 and has been getting himself dressed for years.

DS2 is very nearly 4 and is still totally dependant on me dressing him, im trying to encourage him to at least have a go himself but he is adamant that he is 'still a little boy' so can't possibly....

How old is about right for them to start trying to dress themselves?

My son was just turned 3 I would say, he is 3y9m and can do everything other than zips and wee buttons now. He isnt always the most keen though!

He frequently undresses himself, he loves nothing more than to be naked! I will keep on encouraging him to try dressing himself to!

About 6 in my son's case. Every single year from 3 at his birthday I would say "So, DS, you are x years old now, are you going to start dressing yourself?" And he'd say "When I'm x+1, Mummy." I think he struggled with fiddly things like buttons etc- fine motor skills were really crap. Mind you, his gross motor skills were pretty crap until about 6 too.

It's a must for starting school, so I think as long as they can dress and undress them self by then that's fine. Every child is different it can take a lot of patience if a child as no interest in dressing and undressing but just let them get on with it with lots of praise.
