Strange things we do to 'baby proof' our home

I have an active crawling/cruising 10 month old and today I did all the following baby protection tasks before breakfast

  1. Hairband twisted around tiny handles of bathroom cabinet
  2. Towel rail moved to hide bathroom bin and loo roll
  3. Laundry bins shuffled to guard poorly closing bedroom door
  4. Muslin tied around handles of under-sink cupboard
  5. Coffee table shoved in front of DVD and video player
  6. Several strange things involving wastepaper baskets

The standard lamp, however, has been tied to the radiator for weeks so that's already safe.

I think I foresee a time when everything I own will either be tied to something else or put on a shelf so high I can't reach it anymore.

How bad does it get, ladies? Tell me, I can take it...

I just put stairgates up and said "Hot" every time he touched a radiator... he soon learnt what it meant Grin

Maybe I have a very baby safe house.

I put things into three categories:
Will it kill / mame him - then lock it or move it
It is special to me / DH - then move it
Everything else... then expect to find him eating paper out the bin, throwing soil from the plants all over the floor, and all your CDs out of thier boxes... welcome to motherhood!!

Ah yes, soil from the plantpots. It surprised me the first time I was holding him up looking out the view and he did a ninja pincer move to grab some soil and stuff it in his mouth. I mentioned it to DH who said, " Oh yeah, he did that when I was holding him yesterday". Well mention it then!
I like the improvisation at the mo, but it IS getting out of hand. Don't worry tho, we haven't got cereal boxes blocking the stairs - we did get proper stair gates at least...

I agree with Zil - precious things out of reach, dangerous things locked away. Anything else is pretty fair game!
