My ds's speech seems to have gone slightly backwards

My 20 month old ds has up until now done quite well with his speech, developing as expected etc. However in the past few days he seems to have stopped saying certain words such as 'ta' and when asked to say animal sounds which he knew really well like what does the dog say, he just makes a movement and no sound. Should I be worried at all?

Probably fine - do you use all the words you know on a given day? And he's probably wondering why you keep asking him to do the bloody dog noise when he's demonstrated conclusively that he can do it. Mine is 20mo too, and whilst she has a lot of vocab you wouldn't necessarily know it if she's tired/not well/not in the mood. IN the absence of any other cause for concern I'd be inclined to think that he's just gearing up for the next stage...

Thanks, I never really thought about it like that. I do ask him to make the dog noise rather a lot Blush I think in hindsight he might just be exercising his independance!

YorS - I sympathise - I spent months worrying about the fact that she'd use a word and then apparently forget it, but I think she was just lodging them in her brain and periodically she comes out with something she's not used in ages. Enjoy him, he sounds fun.
