cuddling

My DS is nearly 3. He likes to be cuddled and will come onto our laps for a snuggle, but he has never put his arms round us and cuddled.
When I show him how to do it, he screws his face up and holds it away as I cuddle him and put his arms round me.
My DD is nearly 15 months cuddles "properly" all the time.

Is it normal for a 3 year old not to cuddle?

I don't know but my DS started cuddling me properly after he saw someone having a piggyback. So now he gets piggybacks and will sometimes adapt that into a cuddle.

I think it depends on the child. My mother says I was very uncuddly and wouldn't sit still for long enough to cuddle!

My DD is 15 mths too and sits on my knee and gives proper arms round cuddles (and kisses).

Thanks for your replies. DS doesn't hold on when having a piggy back. He doesn't seem to think he needs to!

Perhaps he likes to get comfort but not return it?

My DD has never been into cuddles. Even as a baby she only liked being cuddled whn having her milk, then wanted to be left alone, and if she hurt herself I looked like a bad mum who didn't do all the cuddles, as she hated it. All kids are different.
