10 month old ds grinding his teeth - help!

My 10 month old ds has now got 4 teeth, in the last 2 day he has started grinding them.

I'm worried that he will damage them in some way, plus, it's like nails down a chalk board.

Is there anything I can do to stop him doing it?

I have a teeth grinder. Started around 9 months, stopped for a while and has started again now at 16 months. Definitely teething related (he's struggling with canines at the moment). I certainly haven't come up with a way to stop it, but 2 months of fairly regular and awful sounding grinding didn't seem to make any kind of dent in his lovely big teeth.

So just earplugs for you then?

OMG mine is 9 months and had just started, it goes right through me. Often sounds like he's crunching boiled sweets!!
Just pass him off to another relative, or put in ear plugs, he's not going to do any harm, loads of them do it; but God is it annoying!!

My 7.5 months old DD does that too. It must be teething related and I hope it will pass. Gives me goose bumps though.

Glad it's not just him. I was worried because my dd never did it, and I had visions of him grinding them down into little stumps

My 8 m.o. does it, although only in the day (many babies do it in their sleep). I've read it's an attempt to deal with teething pain.

It does sound horrible though. It's the closest I've come to considering controlled crying - rocking a tooth grinding baby back to sleep at 3am is pretty unpleasant. Wink

Ear plugs sound like the way forward! Grin
