9 month old biting

My DD is nearly 9 months old and for the past few weeks has started biting. I don't mean when I am feeding her. She will bite down on my shoulder, leg etc. She also does it to my husband and others. She also bites down on the sofa, bed and very occasionally her favourite soft toy.

I am getting really worried that she will start doing it to other children. When she does it I tell her no and put her down (if feasible). She doesn't seem to get it, but maybe she will in time?

Is this a phase?

The added problem is that she does not put anything in her own mouth (toys, food etc). So when she bites, if I give her something else to bite on, she will take it, look at it and then drop it on the floor!

Please tell me this will pass.

Really don't worry - it is probably because her teeth (or coming teeth) are troubling her. Mine still bite things occasionally (aged 3 and 5). I think what you are doing is exactly right and that it will pass quite quickly! I think every child bites another child at some point and as long as they are reprimanded never do it again! Most other Mum's understand that these things happen and will be really understanding if she does bite their child!
