DS turned 6 in the summer. He has never been particularly confident in new situations, but has always been happy in his own skin, playing well with his peers, and becoming even quite loud when he has found his feet.
Over the last 6 months he has become increasingly wary of new situations, often moving backward and trying to make himself dissappear. He is particularly worried about speaking to adults - even extended family and friends. I have tried to gently encourage him to speak small amounts, and to offer big smiles if he is unsure of what to say.
He is now even resorting to hiding behing me, and is flushing pink if attention turns to him.
Does anyone have any advice as to how to gently encourage him to chat a little?
