Fingernails and Toenails

Hi

Does anyone have any good tips on how to cut my daughter's finger nails and toe nails.

She turned 5 months old yesterday and the mails are very sharp, but also very tiny, so it is difficult to cut them short enough.

Also some of the nails seem to curl up at the top and push out, which makes it even more difficult.

Thanks

I used an emery board as just couldn't get on with the clippers and scissors, just make sure it's a fine one and not too abrasive.

I use nail clippers for toes & the little rounded scissors for fingers. I sit DD on my knee facing away and clip away...I have to use tv to get her to sit still Blush

I wait until my son is sleepy and then use nail clippers. Make sure you get the bottom of the clippers under the nail and then just clip. I also count (even though he's 14 months, so doesn't understand) down from 10 (even going 'and that's 8 and a half' if I need to clip one twice, but DH says I'm weird. Grin)

don't be Blush mcflumpy. I also use clippers, in front of very loud and flashing youtube clips

This may sound a bit weird but i actually found that biting my DS's nails was best - had a better feel for where his nail ended and finger began than with clippers! I found they were soft enough that it was very easy to nibble them off. Moved to clippers when he was older and nails were bigger and easier to grip.

Yes I nibble my LO's too - much safer than clippers I found.

dh and ds make funny walks and silly faces. dd sits still in my lap and laughs. I quickly cut her finger nails. great fun for the whole family.

TrinityRhino · 24/08/2010 08:24

I nibbled mine at that age

megonthemoon · 24/08/2010 09:28

Glad I'm not the only nibbler :)

I use a nail file :)

Plopsie · 26/08/2010 08:02

I used cuticle clippers as the nails were too soft to file and I found it difficult to get clippers or scissors in close enough to where I needed to cut.

We used to wait for a car journey, de-shoe and sock her before leaving and trim away when she was sound asleep! Did sometimes take several trips to trim the full complement but it was impossible any other way.
