i hope this all within normal baby spectrum but 11 month old baby doesn't bear weight on his legs at all, just makes frog legs, he feels a lot like jelly when holding him (much like a smaller baby does IYKWIM) as in he doesn't have much body strength, he's just started sitting up but falls easily, when he grabs things he fingers are a bit sprawled out over the item, he moves around on his stomach, pulling himself around with his arms - a bit like swimming on dry land. i'm not sure if this is 'normal' - i understand all babies do things at different times, but he seems to be behind at everything - should he be checked out?

TBH from what you say he sounds fine, just doing things at his own pace. But if you're at all worried then have a chat with your HV. Did he have an 8 mnth development check?

Hi, my dd refused to bare any weight on her legs until she was about 13 months, she has just started walking at 17months. She also didnt move at all until 13months when she decided to bum shuffle. She learned to crawl after walking! She was also later to sit up, i think she was over 9months before stopped falling over.

She is perfectly healthy just a few month development wise behind most babies.

You are right every baby is different but if i was you i would mention it to HV to put your mind at rest and maybe observe him?

When i took dd to 1year check up the HV said they would check her progress monthy until she could bare weight.

Hope this helps.

I think there is a huge range when it comes to weight bearing.

My DD was obsessed with standing up from very early and would weight bear easily from about 5 months. However she didn't crawl till 10 months.

My godson was similar to your baby (but crawled a lot earlier than my DD).

Both now walking and crawling - they all get there in the end.

My friend's DS didn't stand until 18 months because he has loose tendons in his hips. It meant he needed to be stronger to be able to pull his legs in and stand up so he bum shuffled everywhere.

If you're worried just pop down the doc's, I'm sure they will put your mind at rest rather than worrying about it.

Sounds like low muscle tone from your description although very hard to say without seeing him and as others have said there is a huge range of normal development.

My DD has low muscle tone and appears quite floppy/fragile. All her milestones have been delayed but she has got there in the end. She has benefited hugely from physio so if you are concerned there is no harm in asking your GP or HV for their opinion.
