from cot to bed... what age?

my dd is 2 years old next month and has always slept in grobags in her cotbed. I wondered what age you went from a cot to a bed, and any advice from fellow grobagers on when they swapped to a regular duvet would be greatly appreciated! thank you!!!

Both DC's went into beds when they climbed out of their cots, DD was 2.5 and DS was 22 months, he was clever and managed to climb out despite wearing a grobag

When growbags and cots don't keep them in place! Keep them in the cot as long as possible.

A friend moved her son into a bed at the age of 15 months and she's had disturbed nights ever since as he can't settle himself and wanders around the house at night.

But when they put the cot back together and put him in it, he was asleep straight away.

Wait as late as you possibly can, following the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' maxim!

Mine were both moved at around 18 months when they started climbing out of their cots whilst wearing grobags. I haven't had a decent night's sleep since ds2 (now 2.5) moved to a bed.

dd1 went into a bed at 18 months as we wanted to get her settled in her new room before DD2 was born. She has got out of her room about 5 times in 2 years. Putting them in a bed doesn't have to be a nightmare! dd2 will be going into a bed in about a month just before she is 2.

I did both mine aged 2yrs ish. Someone had bought me a little duvet and I gave them that in the cot first so they could get used to one thing before move to bed. Used a bedrail, filled bed with soft toys so it didnt feel vast....

DD1 went into her bed at 22months but still in her grobag, as that was her sign that it really was bedtime. She still sleeps as soundly as ever, although she does occasionally fall out and then is asleep on the floor before we get up to help her :)

My DD is 2 and is still in a cot. She used to have grow bags until about 4-5months ago. We gave her a quilt in her cot so she could get used to it. We waited until the nights were warmer so if she threw it off it didn't matter. Hoping to move her into a bed in the New Year (assuming she doesn't learn to climb out of her cot before then) she'll be nearly 2.5.

DS went in his bed last week. He is 2.6 and never climbed out of his cot. I caught him with his leg up a couple of times and told him it was dangerous and he would hurt himself. He had grobags until the 2.5 togs got too warm in the late spring and I didn't want to spend more money on the lower tog. He had his blanket which never bloody stayed on. Luckily it is warmer now and he isn't that bothered. We just recover him if he needs it.

My friend put her DCs in beds still in their gro bags as they could walk and run in them. So could DS actually. I would have kept in them if it hadn't got too warm.

22 months and moved him in his grobag til he grew out of it and then used a duvet.

we used a bed guard as he did fall out without one.

Not a problem moving him though.

dd was in a bed just before the age of 2 but ds was in his cot till he was 2 1/2. I gave him a cot duvet thing a few months before he moved so that he was used to that rather than the grobag when he swapped to the big bed.

Haven't yet and DS is 2.10! Maybe we'll take the sides off for his 3rd birthday...
We got some bed-rails and have actually been meaning to take the sides off the cot-bed and put the rails up for a few months, but he's never shown any inclination to climb out so there's no rush really.
He has a duvet now though, he was getting a bit too big for gro-bags.

22 months now and in a bed for 3rd night. Always been in a grobag right up until it got hot a couple of months ago, so put a duvet in her cot so she could get used to it.
Personally wouldn't like to use grobag in a bed as it would worry me - getting out tripping up etc

Depends on the child really - they're all different. Some children struggle with leaving the security of the cot bars if you leave it too late, others don't.

We moved DD into a toddler bed at 18 months & she loves it. Also let her choose her own bedding which might have helped

Anyway, you know you're child better than anyone so go with your instinct - you'll probably be right

ds went into a bed at 15months after he climbed and fell out head first!

Actually very annoying as we;d moved 3 weeks before and I'd taken apart the cot cleaned it and remade it. Then had to put in a bed and move all furniture around again

He never had a grow bag.

Not till over 3 because he was happy. I only moved him really because he's very tall and his legs hung out of the end of the cot sometimes .

The growbag went with him into the bed until he outgrew it. Amusingly it took 6 months for him to realise he could get out of the bed without shouting for us to go into the bedroom.

DS went into a cotbed with sides off at 22 months partly because we are expecting another baby and partly because he is pretty heavy and we were getting back ache from lifting him in and out. He also seemed to be ready and had a bit of a bed fascination!

We bought the grobag duvet which has zips at the sides to help keep them in the bed. They're expensive but have been great (although he did fall out for the first time last night but didn't appear to notice). We've also bought the single size duvet for when we go and stay with other people so we don't need to take a travel cot or ready bed with us most of the time which is great. He'll have to go into a single bed in a couple of months anyway because we will need the cot bed for his new sibling.

He hardly ever gets out of the bed to the extent that he calls us and waits for us to get him out of the bed in the morning! Not sure how long this will last though!

Thank you for all your advice, I think I'll wait until that great gut instinct called motherhood tells me it's time (ie not yet).
