18 mo puking - is this normal?

DD is easily over-stimulated and often struggles to settle. She is also on movicol for constipation, which is working well. She's healthy and happy. BUT every 10 days or so after we have put her to bed she pukes (copiously). The pattern is as follows (i.e. not a bug - as far as I know she's never had a tummy bug, although we've dealt with plenty vomit):

  • put to bed (bath, milk)
  • DD cries - we think she will settle
  • crying escalates, so one of us goes and calms her down (sometimes more milk)
  • crying escalates more, one of goes to check on her, pick her up, pukes all over you
  • change of clothes, calm time (usually downstairs), back to bed, falls asleep

Is this because of her crying? Is she doing it so that we will get her up (DP less cynical about this than me)? I asked the paediatrician who we saw for constipation about it and he said it was normal...but I don't know many 18 month olds who cry, and then puke but only when they have been put to bed.

Any ideas??

Are you giving her the milk before putting her into the cot or do you give her the bottle to hold herself in the cot. This used to happen now and again with my little one. No constipation problems or anything but when she hit 18m, we just gave her the bottle in her cot. I think perhaps she used to burp but as she was lying down, all the milk (and most of her tea) came up!!
