Nursery And friends

Over the last few weeks , dd 4 has been talking about nursery. How so and so six does not want to be her friend anymore, or so and so won't let her play. She only has few wks at nursery left but anxious as she never seems to say a positive word about it anymore. Is this normal type behaviour for 4th old girls or is this a failure on nurseries behalf to deal with these issues?

I think as someone who works at a playgroup it is very typical of 4 year old girls, they can be very cliquey even at this age. I am sure the girls that she says are not her friends, are friends with her sometimes. Most sessions see a child with a quivering lip saying " X isn't my best friend". I would normally take the upset child over and talk to them about being friends with everyone, and they always agree and are friends for a while and then it is all change again! I wouldn't worry too much, she will make friends at school and it is only a few more weeks, hope that helps.

Yes that does help. Thought that was prob case but as my first dc, was not sure and seemed too early for all that, but obviously not!!!

Hi, my daughter who's just turned 4 has recently finished at nursery and this does seem quite typical. There did appear to be a few cliques also. She would also say that she couldn't play with so and so because they were friends with so and so etc.

Luckily she hasnt let this bother her and has just found other children to play with. Long may this continue! I will also try to make sure she plays with a variety of other children and try not to have a best friend due to problems my older child now has with being left out.

As evenstar has said she will make friends at school.x
