How do I get 6mo DD to self settle to sleep?

My baby girl, Gracie, is 6 months old and breastfed. She mostly sleeps through the night once she is asleep. But if she doesn't fall asleep on me with bedtime feed I have to rock her to sleep. She won't settle herself. It is the same with her daytime sleeps. I want to be able to put her down awake and teach her to self settle. Anyone got any suggestions? Is Ferber Method worth a try? I'm reluctant to use CC but not sure whatelse is available. Any help gratefully received, thank you.

Scuse my ignorance...what's Ferber?

I presume you are breastfeeding? Then you might want to try the No-Cry Sleep Solution - great book with lots of ideas for ecouraging self settling.

One thing I found really useful was the Pantley Pull off which sounds really dodgy, but basically means you start taking the baby off the breast when they are sleepy but not asleep. To start with you break the latch just before they fall completely asleep, then gradually taking them off earlier and earlier until they are sleepy and awake, then are happy to fall asleep themselves.

I don't want to use CC, but this worked really well for me, have had set backs with teething but DS happily self settled tonight so fingers crossed :)

I hated CC, but my OH basically forced me to stick whith it (I even told him I hated him, the first night we did it) but she's so good now, she does have a bit of a moan for about 5 minutes but falls asleep shortly afterwards.
