Come and tell me how many teeth your 20-month old has/had?

DS2 only has 8 teeth (he has his top front 4, bottom front 2 and 2 top molars) and there are no real signs that any more are coming through....should I be concerned and take him to a dentist??

DD is 19months and has a few more than yours, but still not many!

She has, 4 top front teeth, 3 front bottom teeth (the 3rd appeared last week) and 4 molars (which came in quickly, and apparently relatively painlessly).

I'm not worried and don't think you should be either, but obviously am not a dentist!

My daughter is 20 months, she has 8 teeth too. Four front teeth on the top, two front teeth on the bottom and two molars on the top. She had her first tooth at 11 months and when she gets teeth they usually come in pairs. Hasn't had much problems with teething either so far. I was late having teeth through too, so perhaps it is a genetic trait?

Not particularly worried about her lack of teeth, but will watch this thread with interest. Having a dental check up soon, will ask then.

22 months 7 teeth, in fact she didn't get first until 14 months. and only had four until 21 months, has had a sudden teeth explosion.
dentist says she is a bit unusual but within the normal range and they don't panic unless a child doesn't have any teeth at two. but i'd take your child at your check up, it can't harm to get an opinion.

Thanks for the messages and reassurance Smile

Clare your DD sounds exactly the same as DS2 - they have the same teeth through!! DS2 got his first teeth through at 13 months (when 5 all appeared at the same time) then the 6th one appeared within a couple of months. The 2 molars came through about 1 month ago. Also, he does not seem to be bothered by teething at all (DS1 never was either thankfully) but DS1 had all his teeth by his 2nd birthday and clearly that is not going to happen with DS2.

Ceebee - is your son a very slow eater? Just asking as my daughter will take well over an hour to eat her meals and wondering if lack of teeth has much to do with it. Each mouthful takes an age. The only time she's really fast is if it is yogurt or a fruit pot, something very smooth.

Ceebee74 · 11/08/2010 20:58

Clare not sure about the speed he eats Confused It does take him ages to finish a meal but this is only in comparison to DS1 (who rarely eats more than 3 mouthfuls) and me and DH who are quick eaters...so we always end up sitting there waiting for DS2 but I think he just loves food and wants to eat it all up!!
