2yr DS not wanting DH to put him to bed

DS, 2y5m has started making a real fuss about DH putting him to bed - tears, kicking, calling out for me and generally getting in a right state. It is taking him ages to settle and he doesn't seem to be sleeping as soundly once he is asleep. This has been going on for over a week or so and he's now quite overtired as a result, which clearly isn't helping the situation. I can't work out if this is just a random phase or if he is anxious about new baby (I'm due in November and he seems really excited and talks about the baby a lot, wants to look at videos of babies etc etc) or something else I'm missing. He's up there now screaming even though poor DH is patiently trying to read to him/settle him. I could just takeover but DH and DS don't get any other time together during the week and TBH I'm pretty knackered of an evening and needing to cook dinner etc. Any ideas?

OK it took about 1 h 15 today - with about 30 mins of that really hard core screaming. DH is getting v demoralised I fear.
