How should I respond to 13 month old whining?

Feels like my DS is whining/crying virtually non-stop this week - stops if I pick him up or feed him but that's about it!

Would really like to know people's views on the best way to deal with this - am I supposed to ignore at this age, or is he too young for that? He has had a cold this week and/or teething so I don't want to leave him upset if he's genuinely in pain. On the other hand, I don't want to make him even worse by just picking him up every time he whinges. Advice please - it's doing my head in!

If he's got a cold and is teething then he probably needs more TLC than at other times. Chances are, when the cold/teething subsides, he'll revert to normal. Keep the Calpol handy, try to distract him with other activities, make sure he gets plenty of sleep etc. Good luck

I agree with PP, probably needs more comfort this week.
