He has just finished nursery and we are about to start home schooling. Normally a very confident, happy go lucky kid, he seems to be going through a particularly clingly phase, and isn't settling well at night. Keeps saying he wants someone to sleep with, he's lonely, scared on his own, etc. He is happy to settle in my bed, on his own, with a story cd on the lap top with some wavy visuals to lull him off. Am I making a rod for my back or am I just responding to his needs at the moment?

if he settles in your bed and you're ok with him doing that then i'd carry on.
personally i would say you're just responding to his needs, tho i am sure there are those who would disagree

my rule of thumb is: is it hurting anyone to let them do it?
if not then carry on :-)

I agree with thisis. If you have no problem with it, and your child is happy, then carry on. My dd (5) went through stage of getting up through night and getting into our bed. My mum tut tut-ed a lot but I felt that if she was happy then that was what mattered. And as I pointed out to my mum, it is unlikely she'll still be doing it at 15!
She is now content in her own bed all night.

Thanks folks, I kind of know that it's okay but with home schooling as well we are so off the radar of most friends and family I sometimes just need a bit of reassurance. Everyone's a critic, eh?

Yep, especially around parenting. People are quick to judge.
