Settling for daytime nap

My DS is 15 months old. He has always been a good sleeper and usually goes to sleep following his bottle. He normally is awake when he finishes it, then drops off in our arms or shortly after we put him down. Since he has started walking, he has wanted to walk off after his daytime bottles. I know he is really tired as he is rubbing his eyes and leaning on me (and if i give in and take him out in the car he is asleep by the end of the road). I have been putting him in his cot, and leaving him to cry for a few minutes at a time. Then I go back in, calm him down (sometimes he doesn't calm at all), say night night, mummy loves you and leave again. He starts screaming again etc etc Right now he has been crying for about 45 minutes. Please help !

I feel your pain. DD (nearly 14 mths) used to nap beautifully. Now will not go in her cot!

I put her in her pushchair and rock her now -its the only way she will settle at the mo.

try getting him calm and snuggly in your arms/ in chair together then when he's almost asleep put him to bed, whilst still holding him. gradually withdraw arms/ hands etc.

this worked with our ds and as he gets used to it (and the novelty of walking wears off) you can put him down more and more awake.

good luck!

my DD also did this shortly after starting to walk (14months). it was horrendous and the only thing that i could do was get her to sleep in her pushchair. worked everytime now shes 2 and just falls asleep wherever she is

Thank you everyone. I have been trying to completely tire him out before even attempting a sleep. It seems to be working well.
