Newborn screams bloody murder when passing wind!

My DD is 3 weeks old and gets absolutely inconsolable when she has to fart. She'll stretch out, turn bright red, squeal and scream until eventually she gets it out. I know digestion in general is all very new to her, but I'm starting to get a bit worried by her reaction as it seems so extreme- it's normal right? My health visitor recommended colocynthus Bach flower remedy, has anyone had any success with this?

Wonder if she could be a little constipated?

sounds very normal to me. i keep my boy upright over my shoulder whcih helped a bit. xx

Have you tried helping her along. we used to do a song at Baby Massage that helps with the digestive system. It goes to the tune of Daisy Daisy. You need to move the legs slowly to the music. I will try to explain - so bear with me.

Daisy, Daisy give me your answer do (raise leges straight up and bend knees so thigh is in with stomach and back again)

I'm half crazy all for the love of you. (Hold legs in stomach and sway legs side to side)

It won't be a stylish marriage (rotate both legs in bent position clockwise)

I can't afford a carriage (the same in opposite direction)

But you look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle made for two. (Bicycle her legs)

Boom Boom (tap feet together on each boom gently)

I hope that explains it - you might find she farts during the song. If not she wil;l at least smile at you singing!

P.S. Substitue Daisy Daisy for babies name!

What a thread killer!

Ds used to be like this - I used to cycle his legs gently and he would often let rip in a very satisfying manner. In fact I could often "play him" IYKWIM by making him fart in time!!

We gave my ds Woodwards Gripewater. Helped the fart come out more easily (we started with just a couple of mls)

hi
when my daughter was little, sugar in some water really helped with wind, it depresses all the air bubbles in stomach, my nan told me the remedy, works like magic!!!!!!

serah · 29/08/2005 20:26

dizietsma... my DS had the same thing - very little "worked" so to speak. The farts only came out with the by then requisite protests!

I love Spoos solution though! I tried all manner of stuff to get the farts out early, but they still came, one after the other in the middle of the night.

Its that age old solution, time, that works here. Sometimes Ds still squeals and he's 8 months. Then he laughs when I ask him if it was a big one and blow a raspberry

I never tried the Bachs flower remedies, but can I advise, if anyone suggests colief..... NO!!!!
