crab like crawling - anything to worry about?

DD2 is 11mo been crawling for the past few weeks, but it is the crab like crawling, with one leg looking like she is about to stand up, and the other knee doing standard crawling!. She is very speedy and seems to be happy with it. A colleague implied that i should be concerned as she wasn't crawling 'normally' - should i be? It doesnt mean her walking will necessarily be late or anything, does it?

No your colleague is wrong, as long as she gets around it's fine. DD only ever crawled backwards and sideways, she didn't actually learn to crawl forward till she was 2! But walked at 13 months. DS never crawled, he got up and walked at 9 months from sitting and rolling. They are all different.

thank you, it was the same person who said i ought to be concerned that she didnt roll (has only just started doing that)
I am so insecure at times!

And is your friend a qualified child development expert or just a nosey nutter?

I would suggest you are doing fine and she's a numpty.

Interestingly my DD didn't roll until she was 11mo. She walked the same day, then a week later she crab crawled. Now at 13mo she can run and climb. I wouldn't worry about it, I had other mums say similar 'helpful' things when DD was less mobile, now they're worried as their early rollers & crawlers are not even close to walking....they all develop at different rates & in different ways I thought DD crab crawl was quite cute

One of my friend's said I should get DD 'checked out' because she wouldn't jump off the end of a platform onto a mat at the age of 2 because she said 'if she hasn't developed that skill she'll not grow kneecaps'

Fortunately I just PMSL and walked off.

Well meaning friends - don't you just love 'em
