I think a harmless fun name is the way to go. I refer to DSs penis as pee pee ad they do not understand its other use. With a girl I would use Minnie or Mary for vagina.

Wallace · 21/07/2010 20:28

We use the very uninspired "girl's bits"

yellowbutterfly · 22/07/2010 13:23

"Nunny" here.

Flighttattendant · 22/07/2010 13:31

Oh dear. In our household a 'Nonny' is a bottle of actimel, which ds has been addicted to for 2 years. I hope our children don't meet!!!

beachtent · 22/07/2010 13:39

Ladies bits: Mary, noo noo,

Boy bits: willy, dingle dangle

But I like willies and nillies bumpsa!!

Lobyd · 22/07/2010 13:39

Okay so I'm obviously missing something here but is fanny actually rude?

my DD isn't at the stage where a word is needed as such, but I have definitely been using the word fanny...does it have sexual overtones? I always thought it was quite Enid Blyton...

solo · 22/07/2010 13:47

When I was growing upit was willy for both me and my little brother, then I changed it to front bit.

To my Dd it's Minnie. She's 3.7
Ds is willy now but was bits and bobs. He does know the correct names though being as he's almost 12!

ShadeofViolet · 22/07/2010 13:50

Minnie here for a girl, boys have tails, though DS1 who is 9 has started calling them 'his nuts'

lovingmy2 · 22/07/2010 13:52

button for DD
Winkle for DS

Dylanpsmummy · 22/07/2010 14:11

Had DS 3.6 in the toilet with me and he was quite shocked that I was sat down and about to do a poo in front of him I then explained that mummy was a girl and girls don't have willies so I have to sit down to do a wee.

He then asked if a tiger had bitten of my willy ( really don't understand how his thought process works somtimes) explained that no it was just that girls don't have a willy.

He now has a very superior attitude now as he tells people that he has a bum AND a willy while girls only have a bum!

I to am at a loss as what to call it. Don't know why it's so much more difficult then describing boy bits.

MyMamaToldMe · 22/07/2010 16:37

We also use fanny, and I grew up calling it fanny, and until now, I had no idea it was considered rude!

Lastyearsmodel · 22/07/2010 16:54

I grew up without a 'happy medium' word for my bits. My brother had a willy and I was never sure what to call mine.

So DD has a fanny (not the greatest word but have def. never considered it rude) - I need her to be able to make someone understand what she means if, for eg, she needs to tell her teacher it hurts.

Round here they use tuppence and all sorts of other euphemisms that might not be understood outside the local area.

I do have a fondness for the word minge, though, esp. after the recent MN coining of minjury .

suwoo · 22/07/2010 17:03

I would say 'fanny' was definitely rude. I consider it slightly more friendly than cunt . I would definitely consider it as street talk.

My two are 8 and 3 and know the correct terminology but we call them fairy (way too twee I know) and willy and balls.

CuppaTeaJanice · 22/07/2010 17:11

Am I the only person who calls it a growler?

frenchfancy · 22/07/2010 17:59

Another fanny here.

I remember dd1 when I was pregnant with dd3 saying rather loudly in a restaurant to her ganny, mummy has a baby in her tummy and when it is ready it is going to come out of her FANNY. either she shouted the last bit our the restaurant went quiet just at that moment.

My mum comes from the old school where you didn't have a name for it because you didn't talk about it, so she was a little shocked.

Lastyearsmodel · 22/07/2010 18:53

CuppaTeaJanice That's also what they call pork pies round here - much hilarity ensues.

In order of rudeness, then:
fanny
minge
pussy
cunt

confuddledDOTcom · 22/07/2010 20:04

I never gave it a name but my eldest decided it was her wee wee bottom when she was potty training and learning to wipe herself. So she has a wee wee bottom and a poo poo bottom.

DharmaBumpkin · 22/07/2010 20:56

We had 'creases' when I was a little tacker, which I thought was a mythical thing called a kresus until I was far too old to admit too!!

My DSD has a fanny, it's not considered rude in our family!!

wigglesrock · 22/07/2010 20:56

My dd2 aged 2.8 told me that she doesn't have a "long thing" like daddy!!. Think I laughed more at the use of long than her making up names

Adair · 22/07/2010 21:05

They know vagina/vulva/willy (yes, I know but it's as well-used as penis, isn't it?) but mostly we just say 'your bits'.

Adair · 22/07/2010 21:06

Dylanpsmummy, I teach dd to be proud that she has a vulva rather than just not having a willy. Not sure if ds will develop vulva-envy or not...

NomDePlume · 22/07/2010 21:08

Twinkle but DD also knows the real word.

Beef curtains.

TheFallenMadonna · 22/07/2010 21:15

Poo hole, wee hole, baby hole, and area around said holes. DD's choice. I pushed for vulva but (much to DH's relief ) DD has a functional approach to anatomy.
