Aggressive and shrieking DS (5)

Sometimes I feel like I've tried everything and nothing works!

Eg this morning walking the kids to school - they both want to tell me things at the same time. If DD is talking, DS finds it impossible to just wait his turn and starts making a horrible shrieking noise. I tell him it's his turn in a minute, tell him I won't listen to him when he is shrieking and shouting, tell him he will miss a turn if he spoils DD's turn, 'threaten' him with consequences (eg not getting a sweet when DD is going to get one), and it just makes him worse and he starts hitting me and DD. The more I tell him off the more aggressive he gets. This morning I felt so angry I felt like hitting him back.

What would you do?

Mine is going through a similar phase - but no shreiking, just whiny voice and crying - its like he is the toddler and my 2 year is the 5 year old sometimes!

Ignore, distract, praise the good etc...

Or then take toys away intil good behaviour returns!

I would impose a 'silent walk to school' rule. i.e. nobody speaks. This is an easy rule to understand and it means no-one is getting more attention than anyone else. Do that until until the end of term and hopefully, by the start of next term, he'll have got out of the habit.

Ah, that's a good idea Chil, thank you!
