Have a 15m dd she's been terrible with nappy changes lately. I thought why would this be? Why is she crying and fussing and angry with a nappy change when she wasn't ever before? Then I thought I wonder if she feels helpless/not in control? How can I make her feel more in control?
So now I have her get the nappy and wipes for me. She chooses the spot to lay down (I move the mat to her position). I say, 'lift up you bum' and she lifts her bottom up so I can place the mat under her. Then I take the nappy off. I giver her a wipe so she can wipe herself (she wipes her navel) during which time I wipe the rest of her. Then I tell her to lift her bum again and she does and I remove the dirty nappy and then put the new one under her. Then I have her hold the waistband down while I do the tabs. Then she puts the dirty one in the 'garbage' bin. We wash our hands and I tell her what a good helpful little girl she's been.
We have lots of smiles the whole way through.
Maybe this will help some of the rest of you too.
