Too Royal Family?

We have loved the name George for a long time, but are worried about using it for soon-to-be-born baby boy for one reason: my name is Kate. Is this a total dealbreaker? Does it make the name unusable for us? Would appreciate objective thoughts on this one. Thank you!

I wouldn’t be concerned at all! They are both common enough names that the Royal association doesn’t immediately spring to mind… Maybe I’d avoid if dad was William?! George is lovely.

Love George and no with you being Kate is not a deal breaker it really doesn't matter

The BRF have very common names.
Yes, George and Kate are fine.

I wouldn’t make the connection either tbh but I bet the only people would would be RF stans (like my mate who had her little Katie the year of the Royal Wedding). But I wouldn’t have thought about it myself, nor would I assume you’re monarchists, both names are popular and classic.

George is one of the most popular names and completely classless in my opinion. Same with Kate - I don’t really think about Kate being a royal name. Elizabeth, Charles, Victoria (but not the shortened version), I think sound more royal. But definitely not George or Kate. I think it’s sounds fine!

Worriedmum40284 · 22/03/2023 14:32

OP - my name is the non-shortened version of Kate and one of my DC has one of their children's names. I've never thought about the link and no one has ever mentioned it to me so I would go ahead!

iaapap · 22/03/2023 14:34

They are fine together. Popular nice names.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/03/2023 14:37

Wouldn't worry about it. People occasionally point out that three out of four names in our family are Royal. This is coincidence as they are all popular traditional names. Doesn't bother any of us.

Thank you all! This is very reassuring, and I think we feel much better about the option— if indeed, we do decide to go ahead with George. Thanks!

No not at all.

Kate and George are v common names for your generations. You might get the odd comment when you say what you’re calling him, but it’ll just be people making conversation.

The Duchess (oops - Princess now!) goes by Catherine, anyway. I think both names are timeless enough that they are not associated exclusively with those people.
