I am dithering between the two...these are the final contenders for the girls name. (boys name George.....sorted!)

My mum's name is Iris so I'm biased - but truthfully they are both lovely names. Have you got a middle name?

BridesheadRegardless · 09/07/2010 12:05

Either. They are both lovely

As is George.

Congratualtins you have excellent taste (meaning the same taste as me).

Maybe if really pushed....Florence.

TigerFeet · 09/07/2010 12:06

Florence. It's dd2's middle name and I love it. It's MIL's first name, she hates it and goes by her middle name. She can't for the life of her understand why we used it for dd2, but I think it's lovely. I call dd2 Flossie a lot

loopyloops · 09/07/2010 12:08

My DD is Florence, so I say Iris, I want her all to myself and it is just getting too popular!

On the down side, people seem to thing it has something to do with F and the Machine. In fact, some people have referred to me as "the machine" hmmph!

mrsruffallo · 09/07/2010 12:11

I prefer Iris

LetThereBeRock · 09/07/2010 12:18

Florence. I don't like Iris. It gives me a visual of a giant eye on legs, yes I am weird.
It doesn't make me think of the flower.

boodleboot · 09/07/2010 12:18

It would either be

Florence Lily Yvonne

or

Iris Lily Yvonne

Lily is for DH's deceased mother and Yvonne is for a very dear friend of family - i'd like to honour them both and no one introduces themselves with all their names anyways do they!

Florence is lovely, just gorgeous.

loopyloops · 09/07/2010 12:28

FLY?

RhinestoneCowgirl · 09/07/2010 12:30

I would have loved Iris for DD but it didn't work with DH's surname. Florence is sweet too but makes me think of Magic Roundabout (sorry!)

Fontella · 09/07/2010 12:32

I think Iris goes better with your other names.

boodleboot · 09/07/2010 12:33

yup loopy....that doesn't really bother me (i think you just trying to put me off 'your' name!!! )

Both go with the surname - or don't sound hideous IYSWIM

Iris.

MrsJohnDeere · 09/07/2010 13:11

Iris

Pinkchampagne · 09/07/2010 13:15

Florence is gorgeous. Not as keen on Iris - makes me think of the eye too!

telsa · 09/07/2010 13:17

I think Iris Lily sounds a bit silly (sorry for rhyme): two flowers in a row is floral overdose. But Florence Lily is gorgeous. And Florence has such cute nicknames - Flossie, Flo, Florrie, Floss, Renzi

fifitot · 09/07/2010 13:21

Iris is mine! So Florence.

lovebugs · 09/07/2010 13:43

Love Florence, def on my 'if i ever have another baby'name shortlist.
Yvonne is my MIL name, that is not on said shortlist!

Ineedsomesleep · 09/07/2010 13:46

Love Florence, the name and the city.

Iris just makes me think of eyes.

George is a fab name too....

planner26 · 09/07/2010 13:53

Both beautiful names but I think Iris just clips it - bit more of a classic

FakePlasticTrees · 09/07/2010 14:01

Iris - because although the name Florence is lovely, since having DS (now 6 months) I have met 3 babies called Florence. Or rather, Flo, as everyone shortens it too.

Iris is suitably pretty and unusual, but not being the sort of name noone knows how to spell!

steph1512 · 09/07/2010 14:04

Not long had my 3rd dc...when i was pregnant we were between the same two names love the shortenings for florence they are all cute.

But if we had had another girls we had decided on Iris Elizabeth. Ive always loved Iris..alothough i had a boy after managing to convince dh thrid time round to go 4 Iris after two girls already.

So we now have Grace, Daisy and Hugo

Love George to

Ineedsomesleep · 09/07/2010 14:11

FakePlasticTrees, that just shows how names are regional. I know a few girls called Iris but the only Florence I've ever met is in her 50s.

jabberwocky · 09/07/2010 14:12

I really like the name Iris but not in combination with Lily. Too floral as another poster mentioned. Perhaps Lillian instead of Lily?

Florence makes me think of the nickname Flo which I personally do not care for.

How about just Lillian Yvonne if you are definitely set on those two already?

telsa · 09/07/2010 14:22

Or Lilianne - which I think is prettier.
