I like it a lot. Very pretty

Jas · 06/07/2010 10:38

I love it, but I am biased....it is dd1s name

smother · 06/07/2010 11:02

ooh good to have some positive responses. I'm liking it more and more and I can't see anything 'wrong' with the name but you never know with MNers!

I think its really beautiful

BridesheadRegardless · 06/07/2010 11:07

Jasmine (the plant) smells of sperm.

But don't let that put you off.

smother · 06/07/2010 12:31

sperm smells like Jasmine? If only!!

What a wierd comment and no, it hasn't put me off.

You asked for thoughts, that is my thought.

I hate the smell of Jasmine (for reasons see above) and when I think of it I think of that.

LuluF · 06/07/2010 12:49

Have you considered Jessamine? It's the old name for Jasmine - probably not used as often - though having said that, I don't actually know any Jasmines.

detoxdiva · 06/07/2010 12:49

I know a lovely little Jasmine - beautiful name.

flibbertigibbert · 06/07/2010 12:53

I know a very cute baby Jasmine. Think it's a lovely name

oftenpurple · 06/07/2010 12:55

Lovely name, it was one of our early choices for DD.

smother · 06/07/2010 13:00

Apologies BridesheadRegardless, I didn't mean to sound annoyed - it was a fair comment but just one that I would never have anticipated.

No worries, it's a weird reaction granted, but it's a really strong association for me.

I ma the only person who seems to have noticed this though so please disregard me!

Not keen on 'Jas' as a shortened version but 'Mina' is quite nice

smother · 06/07/2010 15:23

I don't like Jas either, that's what's slightly putting me off.... but thinking maybe Josie could be a nickname?

As long as it's not Jazmin or variants it's lovely!!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 06/07/2010 17:34

I really don't like it, we lived in Bangkok and there were so many Jasmines you needed the surname to know who was who. Not sure how common it is where you are though.
Brideshead that is one of the many reasons I don't like the flower.

LynetteScavo · 06/07/2010 17:43

The plant does not smell of sperm!

The flowers smell heavenly!

I would definitely have called DS1 Jasmine had he been a girl. But I went off it, and didn't consider it for the next two DC.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 06/07/2010 18:32

Sorry Lynette, I must disagree. They have a definite jizz like aroma. I have spent literally tens of baht paying taxi drivers to take their garlands down in Bangkok.[vom]

BridesheadRegardless · 06/07/2010 18:32

I am so bemused that others have not noticed the sperm smell it's so strong, it makes me retch.

Also Jas is a bit too like Jiz, which i think is slang for sperm??

sorry.

BridesheadRegardless · 06/07/2010 18:34

Kreecher!!!! You've noticed!!

Thank God. It's not just me.

You have also conformed my Jiz question.

LuluF · 06/07/2010 18:38

But I think it might be only you two. I'm going to have to do a survey now. I shall let you know my findings!!

But there is also the term Jazz Mags (not sure if that's the correct spelling) and I don't mean the ones about Sidney Bechet or Miles Davis.

LynetteScavo · 06/07/2010 18:39

I think your DH's have sweet smelling sperm. You are very lucky.
