I over heard a dad call his daughter Alaska today.

I was surprised.

Have you ever heard of a girl called Alaska?

Never, makes me want to reply "I'll ask her what?"

piscesmoon · 02/07/2010 19:13

I straight away want to put 'baked' in front!

Perhaps he was shouting 'I'll ask her'!!

Could it have been Eliska? It's a Czech name, a version of Elizabeth.

LynetteScavo · 02/07/2010 21:33

They were definitely English, and I'm pretty sure he said Alaska.

She was very blonde, and I thought it quite suited her.

Why? DD has a friend called Sahara, her sister is Savanah and the brother is Phoenix. And yet again I ask why?

rachel234 · 03/07/2010 10:44

I know an Eliska too. Not heard of Alaska before.

LynetteScavo · 03/07/2010 10:47

Because I was wondering if it was one of those names lots of people were calling their daughter, but I'd never met or heard of any.

According to mumsnet, it seems to be quite unusual though.

I can't help wondering if she was conceived on an Alaskan cruise.

Or maybe her parents just liked the name . Allie would be good nickname.

TakeLovingChances · 05/07/2010 10:07

CornishKK · 05/07/2010 10:27

I once knew a spaniel called Alaska. Nice name for a spaniel.

Pasiphae · 05/07/2010 10:51

Never met an Alaska before. No worse than Dakota, Arizona etc etc..
Although I did think 'baked'.
