???
How many do you know?
Do you think it'll be/it is common in both senses of the word??

I know 3 under 5. Charlie and Lola has a lot to answer for.

Kathleen123 · 02/07/2010 14:18

It's a popular name.

mummytosquidgies · 02/07/2010 14:20

One of our guinea pigs is called Lola

There seems to be a lot of them about, but it's also a really nice name. If you like it, why does it matter if it's "common" in either sense?

Penthesileia · 02/07/2010 14:22

her name was lola, she was showgirl, with yellow feathers in her hair, and a skirt cut down to there...

DetectivePotato · 02/07/2010 19:27

I haven't met a Lola. If you wanted something slightly different what about Lila?

nancydrewrocks · 02/07/2010 19:28

I also .know 3 under 5

DramaInPyjamas · 02/07/2010 19:30

Seriously though, I know only one Lola, and everytime I hear her name I start to sing that song in my head!

Wanderingsheep · 02/07/2010 19:30

I know someone who has a Lola. I think it's quite sweet.

AdamsMammy · 02/07/2010 19:39

Hi - I really liked Lola for a little girl. As it happened I had a boy! However - we do go to bounce & rhyme at the sure start centre and there's a Lola, Layla, Lily, Laura and a Lila all in the same class!

HarijukuLover · 02/07/2010 19:40

I know a few Lolas. MN consensus seems to be that it is 'chavvy'

I considered it for my DD, born two years ago (it has definitely got more popular since then). I still really like it.

IHeartJohnLewis · 02/07/2010 19:43

I have come across quite a few Lolas. There are none at my DC's prep schools. Draw whatever conclusions you like.

Pattenberger · 02/07/2010 20:21

I only know one, and she is not common. I don't think people think it's 'chavvy', just some people think that it is a bit sexual for a little girl. I actually think it is cute and fiesty.

NinthWave · 02/07/2010 20:32

Makes me think of the Kinks song - one of my favourite songs ever, but wouldn't name a child after it!

mummytosquidgies · 02/07/2010 23:25

I must say I do sing to guinea pig Lola, along the lines of

her name is Lola, she is a guinea pig, she has beautiful blue eyes and such shiny black hair

Can't believe I just admitted that!

Raahh · 03/07/2010 11:16

I know 2 Lolas and they are both shitzu puppies.

I do like it, though, but perhaps as a nick name rather than a 'proper' name. Maybe Louise, and call her Lola.

It is a funny name, because on the face of it, it is cute and girly, but the Kinks/Showgirl connection make it seem wrong on a little girl iyswim?

izzybiz · 03/07/2010 11:20

My SBT puppy is called Lola!

zenoushka · 31/07/2010 12:41

I have come across quite a few Lola's under the age of 8. Don't particularly like the name though.

BertieBasset · 31/07/2010 13:01

I love the name but also know 3 LO's called Lola. My DH veto'ed it on the basis of the kinks song.

MummyLovesSadie · 31/07/2010 13:15

My dh wanted Lola for my dd but I won! Doesn't it mean 'sorrows'?

Ewe · 31/07/2010 13:19

I know of a few Lola's, all under 5. I do think it's a bit common!

rachel234 · 31/07/2010 14:42

I don't know any. Really don't like it, reminds me of Lolita and the red light district....

plonker · 31/07/2010 15:05

I can't possibly comment ...I don't know her ...

DinahRod · 31/07/2010 15:11

The slang meaning would put me off, although how widely used/understood it is, I don;t know.

seenyertoeslately · 31/07/2010 15:29

Sounds like a joke name to me because of the Kinks song, but guess that is my age .....

She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a dark brown voice she said
"Lola .. L ...O ...L..A ...Lola .."

WaftyCrank · 31/07/2010 16:12

I have a Lola. She's 16 months and the only Lola that I know of.

9 weeks pregnant with DC3 who will be Lorelei if it's a girl.
