Daniel - yes, no, maybe?

I have already in my head chosen the name Max for my baby boy to be born in November. My Dh loves Max and we have been calling him Maxi as a nickname since we saw him at our scan last week. It just seemed to come to me.

However, another name we love which keeps going through my head is Daniel. What do people think?

Although I am not sure if he can be anything but Max now as that is what I have been calling him in my head!

love daniel, never seems to date, I would call our bump (don't know sex) daniel if DH wasn't called that

Tasala · 02/07/2010 13:54

Much better than Max IMO. Max will go out of fashion in a decade or so.

onadietcokebreak · 02/07/2010 13:54

I love Daniel too....IMO a baby name should only be properly when born...they may not look like a Max or a Daniel...good to have a few ideas but when you see him you will know which one you want.

Maybe ask DP to lay off calling him Max and use a nickname instead?

emmyloo2 · 02/07/2010 13:58

Thanks everybody!

onadietcoke - tbh it is more me calling me Max rather than my dh. It was just a little nn I came up with because when I saw him at the scan, Max popped into my head.

I would love to wait until he is born but I an impatient bugger and like to have everything organised in my head! So I feel like I need to have his name all organised - slight A Type Personality if you know what I mean

Daniel is FAR nicer than Max.

Max wil date and seems a bit like a dog's name to me.

Daniel is classic yet cute, but translates well onto adulthood.

Just a lovely name.

I think you can get used to it being the baby's name in plenty of time for his arrival.

For months I was calling DS something completely different until we settled on his actual name a couple of weeks before he was born.

emmyloo2 · 02/07/2010 14:20

Thanks lonelyonly! I still love Max but I think you are right he could end up being something else. I am glad you like Daniel.

What did you call your son if you don't mind me asking?

StealthPolarBear · 02/07/2010 14:21

love it - only reason i didn't use it for DS is that it's DH's name

lonelyonly · 02/07/2010 14:23

We were going to call him Jayden (don't know what I was thinking!) but we ended up calling him Joseph. He makes a far better Joseph than a Jayden!

Kathleen123 · 02/07/2010 14:25

Like the name Daniel

emmyloo2 · 02/07/2010 14:33

Lonelyonly - oh Joseph is gorgeous!!! Love it. Much nicer than Jayden in my opinion.

Well done!

Yeah I know at the end of the day it's all about personal choice and someone will love one name, someone may hate it but I have never regretted changing my mind and dh loves ds name too. I do think traditional names are far less likely to date and Daniel is just lovely! (might use it if we decide to ever have dc2!)

mendipgirl · 02/07/2010 14:37

Love Daniel

Hedwig3 · 02/07/2010 14:39

Nice name. Prefer Max and it sounds like you are quite attached to it too, go with mummy-instinct.

Greenshadow · 02/07/2010 14:41

Daniel has nice shortened version - Dan is good for an adult and Danny nice for adult or child. (Should add DS3 is a Daniel).
Our mddle DS has a nice name but we don't like it's shortened version but of course that's what all his school friends call him.

Lancelottie · 02/07/2010 14:41

Daniel is the name of the nicest kid in DS2's class.
It's also the name of the nastiest one.

Clearly a versatile sort of name!

StealthPolarBear · 02/07/2010 14:43

Daniel was always the name of the nicest (as in friendly) boy in the class all through my school days. WHen I got to 6th form, I married him!
(Well we didn't marry in 6th form but ykwim)

emmyloo2 · 02/07/2010 14:51

Thanks Hedwig - that's also some good advice. Maybe I should stick with what first sprung to mind on seeing him at the scan.

Maybe my next 3D scan when I see him again will help me in my decision.

Daniel is a great name and far far nicer than Max. Was going to be current bumps name if a boy but we are having a girl.

coffeefestival · 02/07/2010 15:15

I like both.

pointydog · 02/07/2010 15:22

Danile is a nice name but it's one of the few that I hear so much that it bores me. Prefer Max.

mopsyflopsy · 02/07/2010 17:33

I think Daniel is more classic/timeless, where as Max is quite 'trendy' at the moment, so may date more.

mathanxiety · 02/07/2010 20:24

I love Daniel. Max will always be Max Headroom to me.

Gemjar · 02/07/2010 21:23

My brother is called Daniel, I do like the name but my mum was warned when she was pregnant that Daniel was a naughty boys name!

autodidact · 02/07/2010 21:28

Daniel is a brilliant name.

DetectivePotato · 03/07/2010 10:53

I love Daniel. Only reason we can't have it is its my cousins name and DH won't have a name that is already in the family. Another cousins baby is called Max, I really don't like it and think it is a bit chavvy (total appologies to anyone who has called their son Max .
