Ted or Rex?

DH and I had agreed on Ted for this baby due any day now. But I'm starting to get a bit bored of it and Rex has come back into my mind as being a good, strong name.

Which do you prefer?

I prefer Ted, especially if short for something like Edward, Edwin etc.

Rex sounds more like a dog's name to me.

SoupDragon · 30/06/2010 19:55

Rex does sound Ike a dog.
Ted is fine but it is a bit dull
IMO.

Bessie123 · 30/06/2010 19:57

neither name is very nice

BettyButterknife · 30/06/2010 19:57

It would just be Ted - we don't like Edward etc

And I don't mind the dog comparisons! All the dogs I know are called things like Ben, Finley, Tom etc.

Thanks, Bessie - really helpful

I like both. Rex is regal & strong. In fact I think I like Rex a bit more as it is less common.

Bessie123 · 30/06/2010 20:21

sorry, Betty but it's like being asked whether you prefer a kick or a punch. I think Ted sounds wet and frumpy and rex sounds silly and vulgar. Have you got a 3rd option?

Magalyxyz · 30/06/2010 20:23

Rex! I love it.

northlondonchoclover · 30/06/2010 20:24

I like Ted

Kathleen123 · 30/06/2010 20:44

Ted. Rex is too American, and I had a dog called Rex.

Magalyxyz · 30/06/2010 20:54

The dog thing doesn't put me off. ONly really dull names are never used for dogs. Like Paul or John or David. Anything else you might hear on a dog.

My friend's son is 11 and has a Bruce in his class. He carries it off very well! Rex is no riskier than Bruce. Although the king element is king of smug! What about Victor?? A confident good looking kid carries a cool name well, so just make sure your child will be confident and handsome!

Take an honest look at yourself and your husband.

coffeefestival · 30/06/2010 20:56

Tyrannosaurus could be an interesting nickname.....!

pointydog · 30/06/2010 20:59

Ed

Firawla · 30/06/2010 21:11

I think I like Ted more but both are quite nice/cute. I think Rex is much less common if thats a factor for you? I hear Ted quite a bit these days, never heard a rex

CakeandRoses · 30/06/2010 22:40

Rex is wonderful and nicely unusual, I'd use it myself if I didn't already have DS with a name strongly associated with pets!

SOL @ Magaly's direct 'take an honest look..' God, the times I've thought that in RL!

fromheretomaternity · 30/06/2010 23:16

I like Ted - DS's friend's name, it's cute. Can't disassociate Rex from dog, sorry!

randomimposter · 01/07/2010 07:25

Much prefer Ted.

BettyButterknife · 01/07/2010 09:35

So far Ted gets 6 votes and Rex 4.

Still can't decide! Quite like Rex with the king association as DS1 has a royal name too. Not that I particularly want themed names...

Rex

Much more individual!

sophiesmummie · 01/07/2010 10:57

Ted is ok, a little boring/common if I'm honest.

Rex is cool, masculine and much less common. So I'd choose Rex!

TheBossofMe · 01/07/2010 11:14

Rex is superb

Ted isn't
