I have some Italian heritage so I love the idea of using an Italian name for DS2 due in November, but i don't want anything so unusual to this country so as to get them bullied. Favourite so far is Alessandro, but i have a cousin called Alex so that might be weird.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have no Italian heritage and have an Alessandra. I have only ever had positive comments about it. She is mostly a Lexi for short and you would probably find your DSs name would get shortened somehow also. I also have a female Alex as a cousin (spooky eh?)

Giacomo - can be shortened to Jack?

I honestly don't think you should worry about bullying for having a "funny" name. Lots of children have unusual names these days, and there doesn't seem to be a problem there.

Despite the current backlash against Capello I think Fabio is a great name!

Have you thought about the name Alessio? I think its really nice. Alessandro is also high on our list but I'm a bit worried about nicknames which seem inevitable with such a long name. Italian nns would be Ale (al - eh) or Sandro/Sandrino.

Magalyxyz · 30/06/2010 18:08

Rosario is a girls name in Spain so I wouldn't use that one for a boy.

What about Bruno? I know it's not actually Italian but I think it would work really well.

I like Raffaele as well. That is usually Rafa for short in Spain. Do they do that in Italian?

leonardo is a great suggestion! And I love Vittorio too. so smug!

I love Massimiliano, and the English could just call him Max, which would go down well.

Luca is also great.
