Hi Guys,

Do you think we can get away with using the name Lilla (pronounced Lil-LA) with a surname that starts with an L ?

If you say it slowly it's o.k I think-but we're really not that sure, it's three L sounds !!!!

(loved Lily too which sounds slightly better but really too popular )

Thankyou !

I think it depends on your surname, which obviously you don't want to reveal on here.

Lilla Landsborough is fine
Lilla Lee is a bit 'L'y.

I think the longer the surname, the more it dilutes the 'L'ness, if that makes sense.

Have you thought about similar names?
Milla
Lia
Lita
Uli
Linnet etc

Psammead · 28/06/2010 17:14

How long is the surname? If it's quite long (Lilla Livingstone) I think it sounds fine. If it's short (Lilla Lee) I think it doesn't sound so good.

Psammead · 28/06/2010 17:15

HA! X-post CuppaTea. Obviously we think of the best examples :P

George2010 · 28/06/2010 17:21

Hmmm it IS a short last name-one sylable ......

(Love the Milla suggestion !)

TBH yes, I think all the L sounds would be very noticeable with Lilla L....

How about

Clara
Amelia
Emma
Lydia
Emily
Louisa
Anna
Camilla
Maya
Juliet
Talia

I know a Lilia (leelee ya) which I think is also pretty. Don't see surname as a prob really.

CheerfulYank · 28/06/2010 23:56

I agree on length of surname making all the difference. It's a very pretty name IMO.

cityangel · 29/06/2010 00:33

What about Orla, Kaila, Cara, Eleanor, Elin, Ciella, Delilah

flopsy1974 · 29/06/2010 09:26

Depends if it sounds right when you say it. We liked Lily but our surname begins with an L and it sounded like a tongue twister when we tried to say the name. So it was out.

George2010 · 29/06/2010 11:26

It's so tricky! thanks for the feedback so far.......

Llyneth?

mathanxiety · 01/07/2010 22:46

Lilia would be much better even with a short surname beginning with L.

georgieseale · 02/07/2010 10:11

ooh tricky, nice name and unusual but not sure about it working with L surname. Lily is nice and might flow a bit better
