Me and DH have finally decided that our fave girls name is Sylvie (after lots of help on a previous thread)

We both love the name but the problem is our surname

Its one syllable beginning with S and yes it is the most popular english surname!

So give me your honest opinion, can we still have the name we love or is it a no no?

M ade me think of this author - not exactly the same name but so close I don't think I'd use Sylvie...

I personally prefer different spelling i.e. Silvia, more European continental.

Love it. Agree with the poster who said it reminded her of Stevie Smith - me too, and I have always loved that name. I know a Susie Smith, and have never really thought twice about her name alliterating.

Susan I worked for a Simon Smith, though towards the end I tended to call him Top Tosser....

I love Sylvie, it's a beautiful name. It will go great with an s surname

Isaac or Edward. Edward is brilliant because it has more shortenings than any other name in the world - there's bound to be one he likes!

I really like Sylvie S. Out of the boys I am going to copy above poster and say I like Isaac and Edward too.

Isaac - like but too much "s" with Stanley and surname beginning with S.
