names to go with...

I need a girls name to go with my 2 daughters' names. They are called Charis & Evangeline. Both are Greek and have theological meanings. I'd love another Greek theological name, but can only think of Irene - meaning peace ( I think). Which, I don't really like. So, if there are no other ones like that, I'll settle for another type. I don't feel I could have an Abigail type of name as it just doesn't go with my other 2 existing names.

All sorted for a boys, have had that for 6 years now!

Hermione
Ione
Pandora
Penelope
Xanthe

liliputlady · 21/06/2010 22:02

Love your girls' names, but am not up on Greek theology, sorry!

SE13Mummy · 21/06/2010 22:22

How about Phoebe (radiant, shining one) or Lois (agreeable)? Both Biblical and Greek in origin.

Or Zoe (meaning life)?

Lydia?

Our LO was nearly an Evangeline or Hermione, I think they go well together

katiepotatie · 21/06/2010 23:06

I knew a Melina, which is nice, not sure of the meaning though.

LadyCad · 21/06/2010 23:07

Oh yes, Hermione definitely

diplodoris · 21/06/2010 23:15

Acacia
Beryl
Damaris
Eunice
Lois
Lydia
Phoebe
Saba

SilverSixpence · 21/06/2010 23:29

btw melina sounds the same as melaena, which is a medical word (look it up if you like, but the meaning isn't nice!)

Greek:
Agatha -- good, honourable
Margaret -- pearl (not specifically theological, but many saints named Margaret)
Anastasia -- Resurrection
Eirene -- peace
Theodora -- gift of God
Theodosia -- gift of God
Katherine -- pure
Johanna -- (f. of John; God's grace)
Cosima -- beauty/order
Ariadne -- holy

Not Greek, but...
Esperanza (Spanish 'hope')
Ines (Spanish 'pure')
Kerenza (Cornish 'love')

Love Lois, but is rhymes with Charis, so that's out! Also love Lydia, but we have friends with a Charis and Lydia already.

Like Theodora in theory but not sure, All the other ones seem a bit out there to me, probably silly comment considering my daughter's names!

What do you think of the name Hope. Do you think it goes? I LOVE it but DH thinks she'd get bullied and called Hopeless at school.

Persephone?

Sophia is greek and means wisdom

Helena

Hope does not seem im to fit your theme- not that it matters. Hope's nice.

Catherine is greek also and means pure

mathanxiety · 22/06/2010 15:39

Thalia? (joyful)

diplodoris · 22/06/2010 17:36

Artemis
Anna
Zina

SE13Mummy · 22/06/2010 20:55

I think Theodora is fine (and know a couple one is known as Thea but Dora would be the other nn).

Personally I don't think Hope really fits with the other two names in spite of Charis also being a virtue name. I do like it as a name though; DD2's middle name is Hope (first name = Miriam but that's Hebrew Biblical rather than Greek!).

Sophie/Sophia would work. Or maybe Agatha?

katiepotatie · 23/06/2010 12:06

I found it - Melina means honey, i think it is lovely

Cortina · 23/06/2010 12:47

I would go with Irene, in Europe it works well and I think could be due a revival here. Could be very chic and good choice with your other names I think. A French famous fashion designer (?) Or Italian, can't remember which has twodaughters one of them Irene. Not a reason to choose but shows that others can see its allure .
