Is Sienna really common these days?

I really like the name Sienna. I'm assuming that Sienna Miller will be long gone by my baby's generation, but has the name got really common now?

And do you like it?

I wouldn't use it. It's too much related to one person iyswim, and she's gone from 'style icon' to a bit of a skank
That said, if you love it then by all means use it. Just be prepared for everyone to assume that you named her after the Sienna

It was never anything but.

Bonsoir · 21/06/2010 18:13

It always was.

I like it but it is quite popular.

swanandduck · 22/06/2010 11:38

It's pretty but yes, I think Sienna Miller has cheapened it.

It's a nice name, but it will date - i.e. a rash of Sienna's all being born around the years that Sienna Miller was well-known.

Even though you're not naming your DD after this particular person, it just so happens that the spate of baby Siennas has occurred since SM became famous and not before (i.e. if people liked it so much and are claiming not to be naming it with SM in mind, why has it taken her fame for the name to become popular?).

If none of that bothers you and you love the name, then go for it.

If none of the above (all true) bothers you (and if you like a name, I think go for it) then I would personally use the actual spelling of the lovely town in Tuscany, Italy (which I guess is the inspiration for the name...?)

The Italian town (one of the loveliest places on earth) is spelt Siena.

I know a Siena (one n!) who pre-dates the fame of SM - her parents called her after the town.

Depends what sort of common you mean!

Hedwig3 · 23/06/2010 09:58

I have never met one!

Sadly, yes. Also an appealing burnt orange colour, of course.
