How popular is Ben/ Benjamin these days? And what do you think of when you hear the name?

It seems consisently popular but at the same time I don't know any Bens. Lovely name though!

I like Benjamin but find Ben really dull.

annasophia · 17/06/2010 11:20

Ben is ok, quite common.

I prefer Benedict as the long form.

threeinthebed · 17/06/2010 11:21

I love it - it's on my shortlist. I know one my age (30s), but no younger ones. It's a classic name that won't date

LetThereBeRock · 17/06/2010 11:37

I love Benjamin but I prefer the full version and not 'Ben'.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 17/06/2010 11:39

I have a Benjamin and i love it. He gets called Benjamin, Ben and Benjy.

Iklboo · 17/06/2010 11:45

I have a Benjamin - called Ben. Certainly not popular where we live (he's the only one in his school).

tummytickler · 17/06/2010 16:39

I love Benjamin and Benjy, but find Ben terribly dull, which is a shame because I have never et a Benjamin who has managed to remain Benjamin (although I do know a very charming Benjy)

diplodoris · 17/06/2010 17:12

Not keen on Benjamin I'm afraid, but I like Benedict.

LilyBolero · 17/06/2010 17:13

I love it - and have a baby Benjamin!

Jamieandhismagictorch · 17/06/2010 17:32

I like it, but prefer Sam/Samuel. I think names with an a sound stronger than names with an e or and i

weegiemum · 17/06/2010 17:40

I like it, though in our house its the Guinea Pig who is called Benny!

issy123 · 18/06/2010 20:39

Its fine a little bit dull.

mopsyflopsy · 18/06/2010 21:42

Boring, especially Ben.

flopsy1974 · 18/06/2010 21:45

Ben sounds a bit wet to me. Not keen.

Kathleen123 · 25/06/2010 15:24

I like it. I've seen it before as a first name unshortened - Benn - and especially liked this.

emmyloo2 · 25/06/2010 15:35

I love Benjamin as a name. Ben is a gorgeous nn - I don't find it dull at all.

bigbluebump · 25/06/2010 16:48

I don't mind it but wouldn't choose it personally.
