We're TTC and just playing around with names out of interest. Do you like Rae for a girl? What middle names might go well? The surname is similar to Branford.

Don't like it at all - sounds too boyish

ThatVikRinA22 · 15/06/2010 22:17

not keen either. prefer Rea or Ria Rhia or however you spell it

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 15/06/2010 22:18

Love it, my grannie changed her name from Elsie to Rae so if we have a daughter she will have Rae as a middle name...probably Scarlet as forename

SirBoobAlot · 15/06/2010 22:20

Sounds very harsh. Sorry.

coffeefestival · 15/06/2010 22:21

Not keen on Rae for a girl, sorry.

brimfull · 15/06/2010 22:23

Prefer Rea
I know two Raes and it had never struck me as a nice name.
Unusual but meh.
sorry

MilkNoSugarPlease · 15/06/2010 22:26

I know a Rae, it's a lovely name and suits her perfectly!

LOVE it!

purpleturtle · 15/06/2010 22:27

I know a Rae, short for Rachel, and that's probably the only way I would consider it.

coffeefestival · 15/06/2010 22:28

Rachel
Rowena
Rebecca

I like it

Thanks everyone - and to those who don't like it, it's okay! No need to say sorry! It is a short form of Rachael, yes. But here in Scotland, especially in the north, Rae alone as a full name is a rather normal girl's name. Good to get a well-rounded opinion ...not even pregnant yet! I love thinking about names in general.

I think it's lovely. The Rae I know is Raelene.

CakeandRoses · 16/06/2010 11:42

Not keen

KSal · 16/06/2010 12:16

I love it - its my DDs middle name and its was my (scottish) granny's middle name.
can't relly help with the middle name though!

5DollarShake · 16/06/2010 14:17

It's fairly well-known in NZ as a name in its own right (probably the Scottish connection).

I know 2, although both late middle-aged, so that's the sort of connotation it has for me (sort of like Barbara, Marion, Ruth etc).

LetThereBeRock · 16/06/2010 14:24

I hate Rae.

I'm in Scotland and have never known anyone with the name, though I'm in the Central belt not the North.
