Eliza, Florence, Louisa

Hi all,

I have a few girl's names on my list - Rose, Eve and Elizabeth being the three main ones. What do people think of these other possibilities:

Eliza
Louisa
Eloise
Florence

Should I stick with my original list or should some of these others be considered? I am looking for something classic and pretty and not too "try hardy" if that makes sense. I also want her as an adult to be able to introduce herself as a business woman and not have a little girl's name...

Thanks!

I really like Florence and Elizabeth. Judging by friends and mn Eve/Eva is becoming really popular as well, which is a good sign about your choice, but might affect whether you use it.

Florence and Elizabeth are definitely classic and pretty, and not little girly imo.

Eliza is an option for an Elizabeth, so i wouldn't add it separately, it's a lovely nickname.

Oooh nice names, stork delivered a boy for me though

Eliza Rose, sounds mysterious and wonderfully girly and old fashioned!

emmyloo2 · 14/06/2010 15:55

Wasn't Eliza Rose from that Kylie Minogue song she sung with Jeff Buckley....??

Middle name will be Amy. I think Eliza Amy works well as well.

Eliza is lovely girly name though.

Beautiful names my fav's are Rose and Elizabeth but i do really like Eliza too

clarabellarocks · 14/06/2010 15:57

I love Elizabeth, Rose and Florence. Agree that Eliza a lovely nn for Elizabeth as well as lovely in it's own right. Not too much of a fan of Eve.

ExitPursuedByABear · 14/06/2010 15:57

Love Florence

Tenalady · 14/06/2010 16:21

Eliza Rose was a book written by Mary Hooper. It was set in the London in the 1600's. She had travelled to find her parents and its about the various adventures along the way.

BuzzingNoise · 14/06/2010 16:29

florence is great! I like eliza a lot too.

Bonsoir · 14/06/2010 16:34

My DD is Flora Elisabeth Zoë

My sister's DD is Lucie Constance Beatrice

I thinka all your names are lovely!

eatyourveg · 14/06/2010 16:35

Florence is lovely, Eliza too

emmyloo2 · 14/06/2010 16:49

Florence and Eliza seem to be getting a good response. At least they are less common than Rose or Eve.

I wasn't sure if Florence was too over the top, even though I think it is a fabulous name.

Tenlady - Didn't realise that there was such a book!

emmylou2 - I think that was Eliza Dane and it was Nick Cave. Great song if a bit tragic.

crumpette · 14/06/2010 16:55

I love Louisa and Eloise

Runoutofideas · 14/06/2010 17:18

I love Louisa and Elouise too. Couldn't use Elouise ourselves as if shortened to Ellie is sounded odd with our surname.

bandgeek · 14/06/2010 17:20

Absolutely love Eve, Louisa and Eliza! Louisa and Eliza are on my list if I ever have another dd, and the only reason Eve isn't is because it sounds too similar to DD's name

emmyloo2 · 14/06/2010 17:21

Yes - Eliza Dane!!! Was a great song.

I like Louisa or Eliza from your list.

Eloise is nice too. Florence is ok. I just hear F laurence. It sounds a bit harsh for a girl. But I love Flora and it could be flora for short.

Runoutofideas · 14/06/2010 18:28

Sorry Eloise of course not Elouise

LuluF · 14/06/2010 18:33

Eliza Louisa (Liza Lou) was the name of one of Tess Durbeyfield's sisters - a bit of trivia for you - sorry.

Wheelybug · 14/06/2010 18:38

All lovely names - I think all ones I really really considered for my dds.

My top fave is Eliza (DH vetoed though) - Also florence (DD2's middle name - would have been her first name but have too close family connection with a florence). But, that said, Florence round here is v.v.v. popularm along with Eve (but that might not worry you).

PuppyMonkey · 14/06/2010 18:44

It was Nick Cave, not Jeff Buckley...

Eliza Day.

Eliza fab name. Not Elizabeth though.

EsmeWatson · 15/06/2010 00:03

Eliza is my favourite - beautiful name in it's own right.Florence is also lovely.

SandyChick · 15/06/2010 07:54

Love Florence, Rosa and Eliza.

halfawake · 15/06/2010 22:39

Really nice list - all classic and pretty. IMO you couldn't go wrong with any of them.

If I had to pick one, maybe Louisa.

I think Elizabeth goes best with Amy though and you could use Eliza as a nickname

flopsy1974 · 16/06/2010 10:06

I love Louisa and Florence. Lovely names and not overused. Rose and Eve are very nice but very popular at the moment. It depends whether this bothers you or not.
