Jasper or Jaspar?

We have named our baby boy Jasper/Jaspar and need to decide on the spelling so that we can register him.

I am leaning towards Jaspar because that is how we pronounce it, ie; par rhymes with car.

Seeing as Jasper is the more well known way to spell it, will Jaspar just seem like try-hard made-up spelling?

It will look like these well known names - see if you can guess what they are:

Siman

Jaymes

Michul

Wain

Stevun

Yes.

Is there any particular reason you've chosen the Jas-par pronounciation?

FortunateHamster · 12/06/2010 13:07

Does anyone spell it Jaspar? Jasper is perfectly lovely.

ellieinshock · 12/06/2010 13:08

I think that, even if you spell it JasPAR, people will still call him JasPER and he will have to spend his whole life correcting people's spelling, I'm afraid.

Jasper is a lovely name though, great choice.

Thanks everyone

I think I will spell it Jasper then.

We pronounce it 'Jaspar' because we don't live in England and that is the accent where we live.

BTW I love the name Caspar.
