Okay, go easy on me, first baby and first appeal for feedback in this folder! We have our boys' names sorted but have been struggling with girls' names. We want a 3 syllable name as our surname is one syllable (It sounds a lot like Home).

Names I like but DH doesn't:

  • Victoria
  • Eleanor
  • Miranda

Names DH likes but I don't (no offence intended):

  • Penelope
  • Stephanie
  • Rhiannon

We both like:

Rosalind - means 'pretty rose' in Spanish or 'red dragon' in German, both work as we're expecting a little red head. Lots of lovely nicknames, Rosa, Rosie, Lindy etc
Mirabel - like Isabel which I love but not as ubiquitous
Felicity - nicknames Flick, Fee and it means happy
Jemima - nicknames Jem, Mimi
Helena - but not convinced this works as our surname begins with H

Potential middle names include Elizabeth, Zoe or Blake (a family surname).

Feedback appreciated

Fiona Katherine is pretty yet elegant

BettyButterknife · 07/06/2010 15:07

Go with Mirabel, it's so lovely (and a type of plum, which could be a charming nn).

Clarabel?
Christabel?

Clementine is great too.

Not that keen on Helena - mainly because of the multiple pronounciations.

Ermintrude. Go on, I dare you.

thumbwitch · 07/06/2010 18:39

just to add that the Juliets I know have never been called Julie either, only Jools as a nn or Juliet in full. The names are too different, with emphasis on different syllables.

Your names are all very pretty! I love Eleanora, which someone already suggested, and Caroline, Madeleine and Susannah.

Alannah is nice, anyone suggested that, or Madeleine.

SkaterGrrrrl · 08/06/2010 13:45

Oooh, Minerva, the goddess of Wisdom!

Plum as a nickname for Mirabel is proper charming.

I have a Julia and only a couple of old relatives have called her Julie. Everyone says the full name and I guess it would be the same with Juliet.

chipmonkey · 10/06/2010 16:58

Its John Malkovichs' daughters name, Skater.

MonkeyMargot · 10/06/2010 17:32

Felicity is my fave of your list - can also be abbreviated to Fliss.
