Isabella, Jessica or Laila?

Hi ladies
This is my first post & I really need your opinions as I am totally confused & stressed out on choosing a name for my baby daughter who is due in September.
Ok so the situation is I love the names Isabella & Jessica however everyone keeps telling me how popular these names are this year & its just putting me off, the problem with choosing another name however is that I don't love anything as much & find myself comparing every name to either Isabella or Jessica.
I also like Laila and I know this is the name that is least common out of the 3.
I'd like your opinions on which name is best & also your thoughts on choosing a popular name...
The choices being:
Jessica
Isabella Laila

Thanks girls

I would choose Laila. There's loads of Jessicas and Isabellas round here (3 Isabellas in DS1s pre-school class of 25)

I like Isabella and Jessica, not so keen on Laila. Would you consider using one as a middle name? Jessica Isabella or Isabella Jessica would be nice.

xyummymummy20x · 05/06/2010 14:04

yes I would consider using one as a middle name but would be stuck on which to choose as a first between them both...do you think there are too many Isabellas/ Jessicas around these days? As thats all I keep hearing. I also like the name Kate but not as much as other choices.

Would you be okay with it if you called your dd Isabella or Jessica and then there were lots of them at nursery/school? If yes, then go for it! They are both nice names, and I prefer them to Laila.
You shouldn't call your dd something you might regret just because the perfect choices were very popular names!

Flighttattendant · 05/06/2010 16:05

Jessica is less popular than Isabella imo, and Laila is even less so.

CallMeMissTweedy · 05/06/2010 16:13

I like Leila, with an 'e'.

SillyTillyBilly · 05/06/2010 18:32

They are both supposed to be very popular but I don't actually know any Jessicas! I know loads of Layla/Leila/Laila but I don't they top the charts as there are so many different spellings!

I adore the name Isabelle but I do know a lot of them.

SillyTillyBilly · 05/06/2010 18:32

sorry that was meant to say Isabella although I do like Isabelle too!

SillyTillyBilly · 05/06/2010 18:33

What about Isadora?

DanJARMouse · 05/06/2010 18:35

I have a nearly 6yr old Jessica...... but I love Isabella too.

I went for traditional names so DD2 got Rebecca.

xyummymummy20x · 05/06/2010 20:01

I think that your right Isabella and Jessica are much prettier than Laila. I love both so will leave it to my partner to decide between the two takes the pressure off of me but think that Isabella is still my absolute fav. What middle names would you suggest for Isabella that are more unique but flow well thank you x

I like Layla rather than Laila, but spelt either way to me it's a very funky rocking name

dizzydixies · 05/06/2010 20:18

the popularity of Isabella is dependant on your location, our Isabella is 7 in july and the only one we know. we love it, she was named after several family members and more importantly she loves it too

I know of one Jessica

I know of THREE Lila's, THREE lola's, one Layla and numerous Lily's

But if you love a name it really doesn't matter that it's popular - even with the most popular names you've have to be pretty unlucky to have another one in your class at school. And even if you do, does it matter?

dizzydixies · 06/06/2010 08:43

oh and we have an Isabella Jane - classic and pretty and honouring family

  1. Jessica (it is popular but it's always moderately popular, rather than fading in and out = classic)
  2. Isabella (popular but has phases of extreme popularity, like now, then fades a bit)
  3. Laila (she'll always be telling people how to spell it)

I don't think you shouold use another of these for a middle name as they all sound too similar. Pick something totally different.

CoteDAzur · 06/06/2010 10:45

Laila is an Arab name meaning "Dark night". So maybe not great if yours will be a lily-white English girl.

5DollarShake · 06/06/2010 11:25

I think Leila is a lovely name (but would spell it with an 'e').

Apparently there's an Irish saint with this name, so I wouldn't worry too much if she is pale-skinned

Poohbearsmom · 06/06/2010 11:32

If you love Isabella and Jessica you should def use one and keep the other for dd2?
Isabella Jane is really lovely dizzydixies
also liked Isabella Juliet and i think Isabella Grace goes really nice

weepootle · 06/06/2010 11:35

Isabella. Don't like Laila, Jessica is ok.

jellybeans · 06/06/2010 11:38

Jessica is the nicest and not as common as the others (as there are so many Isabelle variants). I like Isabella too though. Not keen at all on laila.

YellowRoseofTexas · 06/06/2010 14:57

I love Laila, but I prefer "Leila". One of my all time favourite girls names.

Jessica is sweet but a bit forgettable...

Isabella is really nice but I think there will be a lot of Isabellas and Bellas this year due to Twilight phenomenon. Not that it really matters if it's your fav...go with what you love!

Hedwig3 · 06/06/2010 21:42

Leila.

There have been a lot of Jessica threads lately haven't there?!
