I've only heard it through studying the suffragettes and Emmeline Pankhurst. I like it a lot though. Any thoughts?

Yes

lidofabiro · 04/06/2010 23:16

I like it

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 04/06/2010 23:27

Lovely.

hidinginthecupboard · 04/06/2010 23:33

I like it - would probably spell it Emeline not sure why as both are lovely.

LetThereBeRock · 04/06/2010 23:33

I love it. It's one of my favourite names.

TimothyTigerTuppennyTail · 04/06/2010 23:34

Yep, fab name.

meadowlarks · 04/06/2010 23:38

I worry people would constantly be hearing "Emily" though, which is just a bland no-no for me.

gorgeous
love the feminist connotations
love the sound
all round winner

lidofabiro · 04/06/2010 23:57

Emelina is a variant.

meadowlarks · 05/06/2010 00:13

lidofabiro - thanks, but that's a bit too fussy for me.

I know a couple of baby Emmelines. V pretty, but ppl alway hear "Emily" and it annoys the mums a lot.

lidofabiro · 05/06/2010 00:18

I prefer Emmeline too Was just looking for something that didn't sound like Emily (though Emmeline sounds different enough IMHO)

saslou · 05/06/2010 10:17

Do you say Emmeline or Emmeleen? Either way I think it is a lovely name

MamaLazarou · 05/06/2010 10:25

Emily, yes, very nice. Oh, sorry, what? Oh, EmmeLINE?

lidofabiro · 05/06/2010 10:41

Do you like Emma, or Lena?

meadowlarks · 05/06/2010 12:13

saslou - it's "Emmeleen"

MamaLazarou - That's exactly what I was afraid of, I think it would just become annoying

lidofabiro - No, sorry. Emma's too common and well, dull, and Lena just isn't to my taste.

Emmeline is a brilliant name. I know a lovely one and it never occured to me that her name was like Emily. Sounds very different to me!

bigbluebump · 05/06/2010 14:53

Emily is lovely (if popular)

Emmeline will often be misprounced as Emme-line, which I don't like.

Ikes · 05/06/2010 20:37

Sad to hear that Emma is DULL

Before Tea
by A.A. Milne (from When We Were Very Young)

Emmeline
Has not been seen
For more than week. She slipped between
The two tall trees at the end of the green...
We all went after her. "Emmeline!"

"Emmeline,
I didn't mean --
I only said that your hands weren't clean."
We went to the trees at the end of the green...
But Emmeline
Was not to be seen.

Emmeline
Came slipping between
The two tall trees at the end of the green.
We all ran up to her. "Emmeline!
Where have you been?
Where have you been?
Why, it's not more than week!" And Emmeline
Said, "Sillies, I went and saw the Queen.
She says my hands are purfickly clean!"

LynetteScavo · 05/06/2010 20:43
