Do you like the name Pearl? My friends think it's a bit (the C word) like Jade.

Can you see it getting more popular??

I like it, can't think of nick names for it either

bananamumma · 31/05/2010 23:54

It's a bit hooker-esque.

I can see it going the way of Jade in 10 years

capstone · 01/06/2010 00:12

I really like it

telsa · 01/06/2010 00:23

I love it - very pretty and elegant. The only one I know is very well educated and a scientist in her early twenties.

nice.

one of the less common gemstone names- you can't throw a stick without hitting a ruby these days.

opal's quite nice.

best avoid any diamond references- v chavvoid.

mathanxiety · 01/06/2010 03:37

Love it.

ki28 · 01/06/2010 07:39

flopsy1974 · 01/06/2010 08:40

I think it is lovely. Having it as a middle name if bump is a girl.

I like it - we have it as a mn for DD2. I don't think it's going to become like 'Jade'. And I know a Pearl - in her 40s - not at all brassy, definitely not a barmaid.

Hedwig3 · 01/06/2010 09:35

Love it.

Shaz10 · 01/06/2010 09:40

Ooh I like this one!

5DollarShake · 01/06/2010 09:45

I do not get Pearl at all. I'm not a big one for old lady/middle aged chic anyway, and think Pearl is one of the less agreeable of those.

Agree with the brassy barmaid, past her best connotations. I tend to conjour up a Far Side matron when I hear the name Pearl.

Everyone's taste is different though.

maktaitai · 01/06/2010 09:47

Pearl definitely getting more popular, I thought it was quite posh at the mo, Jade took 25 years or so to stop being posh so it depends. IMO tis v pretty.

mopsyflopsy · 01/06/2010 10:44

Don't like Pearl, I'm afraid. It just reminds me to much of a pearl. Also doesn't travel well into other languages.

tummytickler · 01/06/2010 10:49

My 5 year old is called Pearl, so I love it - not chavvy imo! It is still unusual - I am yet to meet another, and it suits her perfectly, although she wishes her name was Shirley!

LuluF · 01/06/2010 11:27

Shirley! That's so funny. Perhaps due a revival?

asdx2 · 01/06/2010 11:30

My dd Lucy's nickname is Pearl (because she is small and precious )
When I call her most people smile and think it's her real name anyway.
I like it a lot.

I hate Pearl.
I don't think of it as at all 'posh. The Pearls I've known were anything but.

I agree with the Brassy barmaid image.
