Another name regret.

Hi,

I've just read the thread about the poor mum who regrets the name Ruby, and I, too, am regretting my baby girl's name, which is Bonnie.

I liked it when I first got pregnant, and we were pretty well decided. But towards the end of my pregnancy, I started having doubts, but my bf was adament. 'We agreed on Bonnie,' he would say, absolutely bewilered by how anyone in the world could be so inconstant as to change their mind.

I wish I'd put up more of a fight, but there was nothing else we could agree on. In the delivery room, I was so moved to see him in tears and saying, 'Hello, Bonnie' when she came out, that I just thought, 'Well, Bonnie it is.'

But I don't like it. She is 3 months old and it's probably too late to change it now.

You can change her name if you really don't like it. And keep Bonnie as a middle name or nickname.

What name do you prefer?

I regret a calling my dd the name I did, but left it too late to change it. You on the other hand still have time. Same question as Mme. Which name would you like?

It's a nice name. Alot of people have doubts I think. BUT you can change it up to a year old if you want to. I think Bonnie is alot better than Evie, Izzy etc which nearly every baby is called!! BUT if you want to change then do it.

She's still very young if your going to change it, it needs to be sooner rather than later.

Personally, I love Bonnie. It is cute for a little girl but sounds cool/sophisticated for an adult as well. I also like the fact that it is quite unique.

But if you as parents are sure that it isn't right, you can always change it. What have you got in mind instead?

It reminds me of my geordie grandma 'hello, bonny lass'

Change it!

Have Bonnie as a middle name.

I wish I had changed DDs name, but now shes 1.5 and its too late,

I do like it, and I love the shortened version but I kind of wince a little when I think of her being 30 with the name

The trouble is, I wantr to call her Euphemia Ha ha. I'd never get away with that. I like Anna, Sophie and Grace.

I really don't think my bf will agree to changing it, though.

The reason I don't like it is cos I feel I should be talking to a golden retriever whenever I say the name.

Shes called Aurora, Rorie for short.

When I named her, I had 2 sons and didn't really realise the whole 'Disney' thing and just dismissed it.

Its only as shes getting bigger that we are realising how much Aurora is linked to that ruddy princess

Even though to us is means light and dawn, (she was born at dawn)
I do like it, I would just choose something else if I could go back.

Bonnie is a really lovely name, and so are your others (although they are more common).

I think you still have time to change it. It doesn't seem fair that your DP wasn't prepared to discuss this before her birth

Bonnie is a pretty name (not one that I would have chose, since I am Scottish) but I also like your other choices.

Concentrate on Bonnie Greer rather than golden retrievers.

Aurora is a beautiful name and once she is out of the princess phase you will forget all about the Disney thing.

Well, I actually love Euphemia. I think it is elegant and feminine. Effie is a cute nickname. But YOU as parents need to feel comfortable with the name.

You can change the birth certificate up to 12m, we did it at 11m 3weeks!

It is pretty, how about Bonita which is similar do you like that? It means pretty in spanish. Its not too late to change the longer you leave it the harder it will be to change.

Just out of interest Cadelaide, how did people react to you changing names so late in the day? And did everyone make the switch to DC's new name easily?

Read the childrens' book 'The Wolves of Willoughby Chase' you may change your mind.

The character called Bonnie is lovely.

FWIW, I had doubts with all my DC after about 2 or 3 months, because I felt like they should have 'grown into' their names by then, and they hadn't. It just took a bit longer than I thought it would though - by about 6 or 8 months they suited their names perfectly.

I like Bonnie, Bon is cool too when she is a bit bigger.

Bonnie is much nicer than yet another Sophie or Grace. Are you sure you can't grow to love it? it's very sweet.

I would have liked Bonnie but my loathsome neighbour is called that so not any more. Have you any Spanish/Italian in your family? Can you change it to Bonita?

As others have said, you have up to 12m to change it - see if you can't come up with one that your BF likes.

Can't say I like Euphemia though! What about Phoebe?

My great aunt is Euphemia, and is called 'Femia', although she's such a feminist she likes being called, 'femmy'
