Hi guys. What are your thoughts on our shortlist of Fred (probably Frederick)and Jasper? We love both equally so really need some input to help us decide!

How popular are these names at the moment or likely to be in the near future. And what springs to mind when you think of each name? Thanks for you help.

I prefer Jasper though, however it is quite popular I think.

Freddy is cute for a baby but then Fred as an adult is a little dull I think.
What about Edward or Hugo or George. Similar names to Jasper and Frederick?

Fred and Frederick are very nice. Makes a change to hear Fred instead of Freddie too (nothing wrong with Freddie though).

Not keen on Jasper.

Really like both, slightly prefer Fred

Alicetheinvisible · 25/05/2010 17:46

Our Ds (due in 11weeks) is looking likely to be Frederick (Fred) again i prefer Fred to Freddie. It is a family name so that is one of the reasons for us. I like that it can be shortened but still is a 'proper' name iyswim?

WhyDontYouJust · 25/05/2010 17:49

You think Fred is dull but offer up Edward or George as alternatives emmyloo

My ds is called Fred. It's a bloody brilliant name. I know three Freddie's, one is 13yrs and two 6yr olds but mine is the only Fred I know. Oh and he is called Frederick - just in case he wants to do a really fancy job

Don't really like Jasper (one of the Cullen family in Twilight is called that if that has any bearing on your decision) - sorry!

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy

LetThereBeRock · 25/05/2010 18:43

Jasper yes.Fred no.

pogleswife · 25/05/2010 19:53

Jasper and Fred - were they not the two villains in 101 dalmatians?
Sorry, that has nothing to do with the names individually, which are both ok, but it was what sprung to mind when i saw your title!

TabithaTwitchet · 25/05/2010 20:03

Great minds pogleswife I was just about to post the exact same thing!
But in fact have been thinking hard about it and I think they were called Horace and Jasper.

OP, really like Fred, makes a change from Freddie, cute for a little boy, strong and dignified for a man. Not personally keen on Jasper.

pogleswife · 25/05/2010 20:44

yes of course, thanks tabithatwitchet, you're
right, it was horace and jasper. Actually, I too vote for Fred.
