Names to go with middle name Anna

Anna will definitely be the middle name, and I can't decide on a first name, I was all set on Darcy til I read a thread on here saying it is becoming popular, over-used, faddy and 'chavvy'. I still might use it anyway cos we live in Italy so won't matter, and I already liked it a long time ago.
As an idea of the kind of names I like (but seem to find something wrong with) are:
Alba (DH is Italian)
Alys (I'm a bit Welsh)
Darcy
Elodie
Emilia
Freya
Juliet
Giulietta
Robyn
Saskia
Skye
I'm fussy I know. Any suggestions? TIA

Do you not care about the name being indifferently English or Italian? I would go for something that is easy in both languages - Emilia on your list is good.

LaRagazzaInglese · 24/05/2010 09:12

mmm it doesn't have to be, although I'd prefer something easily pronouncable in both languages, i.e Alice would be pronounced al-ee-ch-eh, and Cecilia che-chee-lia, and I know what it's like to correct everyone who reads my name (grr) but nothing seems to go flow with Anna..

I think Anna is usually a first name - it flows better that way.

Thanks Sapell3, it doesn't need to be italian, just easy for both sides of the family. e.g of names that are out: Polly means chickens, Poppy means tits, Ella means her, and of course Mia, Cara, Bella, Donna etc. Nonna can't pronounce the letter X so a name like Max would be Makis! etc etc ...

Elodie!

Elodie Anna lovely.

Anna as first name bit nothing-ish.

Hedwig3 · 24/05/2010 12:07

First names with an 'a' ending don't flow so well with Anna.

LaRagazzaInglese · 24/05/2010 12:11

Is Elodie getting a bit popular/faddy these days? is it a little bit girly/frilly? my sister's baby is Ella, is that too close? It's ok, you can tell me to shut up if you want! i just seem to find something wrong in every name!! grr

I don't think Elodie will become faddy even though it seems to be slowly growing in popularity. I don't know any.

I don't like frilly names but I do like Elodie so not sure if that answers that question.

Ella and Elodie are quite different names in my opinion.

dizzydixies · 24/05/2010 13:46

Elodie and Ella are very different

I think Darcy is lovely and hate these bloody threads that harp on about names being too faddy or chav

pick a name because YOU LOVE IT, not because you're worried what others will think of it PLEASE!!!

I love Alba and Saskia from your list too

sapell3 · 24/05/2010 15:43

Elodie is a lovely name and would go well with Anna as a middle name. I really like a lot of the names on your original list - have you definitely ruled them out? Alba is lovely but I don't think Alba Anna would fit very well. Elodie Alba would be great but I know you said Anna has to be the middle name.

LaRagazzaInglese · 24/05/2010 23:59

Thanks everyone, I think it's between Darcy Anna and Elodie Anna. P.s surname is Martorana and think Darcy Anna Martorana sounds brill, it almost rhymes!

Is it too late to speak up for Giulietta or Juliet? Giulietta Anna Martorana

LaRagazzaInglese · 25/05/2010 19:48

As much as I love it, I sort of ruled it out because here, Giulia is as popular as Isabella/Evie in UK, I also like Giuliana. It might be a middle name for next DD!

my dd is anna with middle name of elizabeth. Think the reverse works well? Persnally i would avoid a first name which also ends in 'a' but that's just my own view.
