i must be really thick. why is jonathan thomas cruel?

CuppaTeaJanice · 23/05/2010 18:54

I'd choose his first name first, then pick a middle name to go with it (and yes, John Thomas would be cruel). Does he look like a Jonathan? Is that your favourite name? What about Jonathan Louie, or Jonathan Albert?

booyhoo, John Thomas is a slang term for a penis.

booyhoo · 23/05/2010 19:03

is it an english term for it? i am in nortehrn ireland, i have never heard that.

Mimi1977 · 23/05/2010 19:14

Unless you are going to call him Jonathan and not shorten it he will be destined to have a life full of ridicule from his friends - sorry!

imahappycamper · 23/05/2010 19:23

I have a Jonathan who has elected to call himself Jonny. You can't stop him choosing what he wants to be called.
If you really like Jonathan why not have Louie second.
We thought about Thomas for our DS but it would have made him the third Thomas M.in his class, so we were glad we changed our minds. Jonathan is not as popular- just has a steady following.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 23/05/2010 19:36

It's not an English expression afaik - I'm in Scotland and it's a well enough known slang term here

nickytwotimes · 23/05/2010 19:37

It is cruel, yes.

Lovely names but not together, no.

Louie is nice. Not personally keen on ALbert, but perfectly good name.

piscesmoon · 23/05/2010 19:38

Both nice-BUT -not together!

scottishmummy · 23/05/2010 19:46

john thomas= slang for penis.so be like calling your baby prick

HecateQueenOfWitches · 23/05/2010 19:47

Yes, it's cruel. You can't do it to the poor little sod!

letsblowthistacostand · 23/05/2010 20:02

My cousin has called his new baby John Thomas after both grandfathers. They are American though, I guess it's not much used over there. I knew it before I moved here, not sure how, but my mom had no idea. We decided not to enlighten them, they're in the middle of the country and likely to stay so probably will never be an issue for the kid. I have a quiet snigger every time they post something on facebook though.

LittleMissWorryHead · 24/05/2010 19:46

Very cruel. Don't do it!

Rosebud05 · 24/05/2010 21:38

I think it's from 'Lady Chatterley's Lover', which might explain why it's lesser known in the States.

Mandi1984 · 25/05/2010 10:45

For the love of all that's good and holy.

Please do not name your child Cock. You don't need to be told that's cruel!
