Like Jasper don't like Jarvis, immediate association with Cocker.

George2010 · 20/05/2010 10:15

Hey,

I don't mind Jasper, it's quite cool and could be anything when he grows up from artist to businessman -don't like Jarvis though sorry!

wahwahwah · 20/05/2010 10:15

Jasper sounds like a cat to me (don't know why) and just think of Jarvis Cocker with his veeeeery long legs.

Tidey · 20/05/2010 10:15

I hope this doesn't offend you but they sound like lovely names for King Charles spaniels, but not so good for babies.

SweetTea · 20/05/2010 10:18

Yeah, hubby does like Jarvis Cocker though! Is he so bad?!

Is Jasper very popular?

RedRoseRibbon · 20/05/2010 10:18

Jasper is quite nice, but Jarvis don't like..

SweetTea · 20/05/2010 10:20

Tidey, you made me laugh (grin) Not offended at all, but think long term. What about when they are older and not a baby?

EleanorD · 20/05/2010 12:27

Oh I like Jasper lots but not such a fan of Jarvis.

seeker · 20/05/2010 12:30

Sounds like a firm of solicitors in Dickens!

LetThereBeRock · 20/05/2010 13:15

I love Jasper but hate Jarvis.

Hedwig3 · 20/05/2010 16:31

I like Jasper.

hippopo · 20/05/2010 16:57

oooooh I like Jarvis actually. Might like it for LO due soon.

DH and I both like Jarvis Cocker (he has son called Albert - not sure if you like that?)

thisisyesterday · 20/05/2010 17:00

Jarvis is very cool, I considered it for 2 of mine

Jasper is ok, I know a new baby Jasper and seen is mentioned on here a few times recently... maybe the start of a revival?

UnrequitedSkink · 20/05/2010 17:11

Excellent names. For a pair of ginger tomcats.

SweetTea · 20/05/2010 18:02

Agreed, Jasper is a good name for an animal, i knew a dog by the name of it once.
Never heard of an animal call Jarvis though!!

Jarvis will definitely divide opinion that's for sure, but we want something a little different as our first child has a very 'safe' name!

SillyTillyBilly · 22/05/2010 11:43

Like Jasper but don't like Jarvis at all - sorry.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 22/05/2010 17:06

I don't like either, and they are fairly dissimilar IMO

Jasper - quite posh. Labrador
Jarvis - not posh ? "cool" (and a surname)

Sorry

LaDiDaDi · 22/05/2010 17:08

Not keen on either tbh, Jasper the best of the two I suppose.

SweetTea · 25/05/2010 09:42

Well i think dh and i have both gone off Jasper, but Jarvis is still an option even though most of you don't like it!!

We did at one stage consider Oscar or Frederick (shortened to Freddie or Fred) but think these are both far too popular now.

What about Dylan or Dexter?

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Must be a bit different and not end with an 'e' sound such as eddie, billy, harry etc. (this is also why i don't like freddie!).

Thanks all!

OP posts:
sapell3 · 25/05/2010 09:59

I like Dylan but not keen on Dexter as it's a surname.

diddl · 25/05/2010 11:42

Dylan is lovely.

sapell3 · 25/05/2010 12:58

A few names beginning with Ja- or similar sounds

Jacob/Jake
Jairus
Jared
James
Jarvell
Jerome
Jeremiah/Jerry
George

Cadelaide · 25/05/2010 13:00

Oh go on, go for Jarvis, I think it's great.

You'll regret it if you don't (bitter experience).

SweetTea · 25/05/2010 21:37

Thanks for the suggestions sapell3, but i find some of those names even more 'unusual' shall we say than Jarvis!! Not keen on anything biblical sounding, no offence but it's just not for us.

Hooray for Cadelaide! Another supporter!! What was your 'bitter experience'?

Discussed names with my midwife today and she thinks Jarvis is also a good name and thinks it suitable

Of course i have no idea if it's a boy or girl though as we decided not to find out!

Don't like Jasper - purely as I associate it with posh tossers. Like Jarvis - because I have harboured lustful thoughts about Jarvis Cocker since 1996 (appreciate this post isn't actually helpful, just felt compelled to add to the debate - sorry!).
