Can't decide whether it's a bit too fussy or just boring now? are there loads?

i know none and love the name :-) is a top fave if we have another girl one day!

Fussy. Made up (okay by Byron, so a vintage classic if you like, but always sounds odd to me as it has the Italian feminine 'Anna' with a French masculine ending 'bel'). And above all sounds like the fairy at the top of the Christmas tree. Annabel/Tinkerbell..

Isobel the 'bel' name I would go for.

swanandduck · 19/05/2010 10:22

I think it's nice and not a bit boring.

weegiemum · 19/05/2010 10:23

Nice. Ony of my dd2's closest friends is the only one I know - she's 6.

Hedwig3 · 20/05/2010 12:38

I think this is the only 'bel' name that I do like, elegant.

Love Anna!

Tidey · 20/05/2010 12:41

I think it's a bit simpering and cutesy. Anna and Annie are both good though. No offence meant, I'm just not that keen on names ending with 'bel', or 'ette'. Good luck anyway.

Love it!

This is my sister's name. She absolutely hates it, despite the fact she is good looking and funny, and just what you would hope to be if you were called Annabel.

orti · 20/05/2010 14:22

Maria1665- why does your sister hate it and what kind of name would she prefer to be? tbh - blow hot and cold on it all the time.

I am not massively keen, find it a bit princessy, but that may be due to particular Annabels I have known...!

She thinks its ridiculous. Looks and personality wise, she is somewhere between Kate Winslet and Sue Sylvester from Glee, with a Hull accent. She hates the way that whenever she tells anyone her name, they say 'Annabel?' as they struggle to reconcile their preconceptions with the person stood before them.

Even as a child, she hated it. When she moved to secondary school she tried to change it, and we had people ringing up asking for Annie.

The plus side is that no one ever forgets it, and when she addressed conferences, she is the one speaker every one remembers.

As the big sister, and the one who, according to family legend, chose the name Annabel, I still think its funny she is called Annabel. I forget about it for a while, and don't notice it, and then something will make me become aware of it, and it will make me laugh. I'm smiling now.
