I really loved this name when ds1 was born but it was odd with my surname. Now there are many in my town.
It is the sort of name I hear bellowed down the bacon aisle in Morrisons....

Jojay · 15/05/2010 10:52

None. A couple of Leo's but no Leon.

I know a South African man called Leon - he's lovely so the name has good associations for me, but as a name in itself, I don't love it, sorry.

LynetteScavo · 15/05/2010 10:53

Not any atm.

I've come across a few in the past.

IME they are always naughty very lively and wilful.

LaDiDaDi · 15/05/2010 10:55

None, I much prefer Leo tbh.

Amapoleon · 15/05/2010 10:55

I don't know any, although many people mistake my Leo for a Leon. He is very lively and wilful, hehehe.

gorionine · 15/05/2010 10:56

I do not know any little ones but I had a great uncle called Leon and he was the most fantastic peson in the world! I really do like the name.

bran · 15/05/2010 10:58

I know two and they are as described by LynetteS. The name always makes me think of the film.

wastingaway · 15/05/2010 10:58

I don't know any Leons.

It makes me think of a paid assassin/hitman, as in the movie.

weegiemum · 15/05/2010 10:58

None. I have heard of one Leo IRL.

I kind of think it sounds Spanish/Latin American??

belgo · 15/05/2010 11:02

One in Belgium; one in New Zealand.

I like the name.

LetThemEatCake · 15/05/2010 11:03

interesting.

I have a Leon, which is why I ask. My dh suggested it for dc2 and I said no, there are loads of them. Based on the fact that I had met precisely two in my entire life!!

I do love the name so came round to it for dc3, and have since realised that although there are lots of Leos around, I haven't really come across any Leons.

I know a Leon - whose full name is Leonardo - which is quite fab.

hellsbelles · 15/05/2010 11:05

I don't know any but I love the name . And I think it will sound great as a grown up name (if that makes sense) as well.

sungirltan · 15/05/2010 11:10

one. nephew in law. he is travelling the world and making good money with his engineering job. he is only 19 - so a good name imo

LetThemEatCake · 15/05/2010 11:13

by "bellowed down bacon aisle in Morrisons" I am assuming the implication is "ch*v", no?

I think all of my dc names could be accused of that, actually.

I adore the film too, that's why I wanted it for ds! That actor is so jolie laide (not sure if I have spelt that correctly) but it means gorgeous, though really not classically good-looking IYKWIM.
When we talked about leon for our bump, some people thought we were glorifying Trotsky!

elliemental · 15/05/2010 11:17

LTEC, it was a phrase coined by someone else on here a while back...i don't even mean ch*v, (which is a word i don't like). it's more the kind of mother with a tiny vest top barely covering her spammy upper torso who screeches and makes leon have around 5 syllables.
FWIW, the name we chose for ds1 has appeared on here recently described as Chavvy, so...

BendyBob · 15/05/2010 11:19

I don't know any but also think of the film.

Actually I really liked the film; Jean Reno has the most divine voice/accent, so that's what comes to mind for me

jellybeans · 15/05/2010 11:34

I like it, know one child of about 8 and one man in his 30s. Great name.

Nolda · 15/05/2010 11:39

I know one of about 3 years of age. It makes me think of the film.

Lovethesea · 15/05/2010 11:49

I think of the film but it's not a bad connection in my head - not my style of name so wouldn't consider it but don't dislike it exactly either.

lol mayanna, I was about to post that I know hundreds of Leons...we are in Germany.

I think preferences must be a bit regional though - we are in bayern, and I dont know a single Paul or Jonas or Tim. All the others are very popular though!
